Guest mELIANTE Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) Ok, I've been charging my phone while on and battery life was good, not that good, but still got me through the day. A couple of days ago I charged it while off and the battery life suffered an improvement, not substantial but a relative improvement. After that I charged it again while on and, after the phone said "battery charged" I turned it off and put it to charge again. It still charged for about 30/40min until the light got green. I read that as it's only doing a partial charge while turned on. What can I do to make it charge completely while on? I'm about to do a reflash, and going to erase all data and afterwerds I'll erase battery stats. Will that improve the charging? Thank you. Edited November 3, 2010 by mELIANTE
Guest oh!dougal Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 ... I turned it off and put it to charge again. It still charged for about 30/40min until the light got green. ... At which point, it was 90% charged ... (stock, manual Page 37). There is a language issue here too. "Battery life" deserves to be reserved for how many months or how many charge/discharge cycles the thing can achieve before the battery capacity drops significantly. "Battery runtime" is a better term for how much you get out of one charge. Yes, English folks do sometimes confuse such terminology. Like "build quality" - which doesn't actually refer to the ruggedness (or perception of durability) of the design, but rather to the variability of assembly quality in production, and thus the "fit and finish" of the final product. And incidentally, slower charging (less amps or milliamps) should give a longer battery life, even though it will require longer charging to give the same runtime.

Thank you for correcting me, I really misused the term:) As for the 90% i do really wait until it reaches 100%/battery charged status in the lock screen. Even so, if I turn the phone off after that it still charges for a good 30/40 mins. I've reflashed the ROM I was using and wiped battery stats after fully recharging again. Also, when I pressed "wipe batt stats" in clockworkmod recovery nothing appeared to confirm that the stats really were wiped. Is this normal behaviour? Ops, didn't realize you were talking about 90% when off. I believe that, when off, the light only turns green at 100%, as when on it turns green at 90%. Even if it weren't the case, it still leaves the question "why is the battery runtime better when phone charged while off" Edited November 3, 2010 by mELIANTE
Guest mELIANTE Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 No one else experiencing this? I'm running Seb404's r5 if it matters.
Guest goatee Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 I haven't noticed, but I normally charge my phone when turned on - I'll give it a go, and report back. No one else experiencing this? I'm running Seb404's r5 if it matters.
Guest mELIANTE Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 Apparently, when on, the phone only charges to 3.145v as apposite to when off reaching 3.150v. Not much of a difference in values but can have an impact in the runtime.
Guest schkinx Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 Here's a little tweak , i know its not really related to the topic , but still interesting ... black google search oled power saving
Guest mELIANTE Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 (edited) Just a catch up of the situation. Apparently nothing to do off/on status but with charging speed. It seems that charging through USB (pc) gets the same result as when charging while off. Maybe I have a faulty charger but I don't think that's it. It's like the voltage climbs to fast for it to really reach that potential difference. Or maybe it's some process that remains in background that keeps eating through the battery  Edited November 9, 2010 by mELIANTE
