Guest matt_tee Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Good afternoon to you all! I have managed to flash a custom rom to my new san fran, using clockworkmod, etc. (firmware 2.1-update1/kernel 2.6.29 zte-kernel@zdroid-SMT/baseband P729BB0). There are some excellent stickies on here, credit to all involved! I have a very small issue...hope you don't think it as moaning, but I've lost my FM Radio! Does anybody know how I get it back? Have I done a NOOB mistake and deleted it, or is it not included in the rom? I've searched on this forum first, but cannot find anything. Apologies if someone has already posted a solution, If so, I will delete this topic. Thanks for all of your help (in Advance!) Loving the san fran, only bought it to play with (Gadget freak!) but now thinking of using it instead of Iphone! Cheers, Matt.
Guest HitTheCow Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) or is it not included in the rom? correct :) Edited November 3, 2010 by HitTheCow

Just download the stock image zip and grab the fm radio apk from there (will be under /system/app) , install and away you go.
Guest mELIANTE Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Be advised, the device's performance will suffer with that app, just by it sitting there.
Guest matt_tee Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 Be advised, the device's performance will suffer with that app, just by it sitting there. I will just have to wait until they release the public froyo release, hopefully it will be in there :) p.s - I tried 2.2 froyo, but reverted back to 2.1 after a few issues, (telephone touchpad - really small/ icons small) but other than that, it was really quick! Look forward to the possible future release. Matt. Thanks.
Guest Teh H4rRy Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) I'm sorry what? How can the performance drop if its got one app installed that isnt even running? Edited November 3, 2010 by Teh H4rRy
Guest mELIANTE Posted November 3, 2010 Report Posted November 3, 2010 I'm sorry what? How can the performance drop if its got one app installed that isnt even running? Yeah, I know. It baffled me too but that's what happened when I put the app back in my phone. Instantly smacked the performance down. After I removed it again it was back to normal. Weird huh?
Guest super san francisco Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 when i try to install the apk with appinstaller, it says that i could not be installed, although i got root, r/w mounted system folder and all that nice stuff... seems as if it didn't want to be on my phone. got the R6 lite release installed so it's not part of it. would be nice to listen to some radio from time to time... any ideas? if someone teaches me to make an appliable zip (of this), i'll be happy aswell
Guest lpinho Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Yeah, I know. It baffled me too but that's what happened when I put the app back in my phone. Instantly smacked the performance down. After I removed it again it was back to normal. Weird huh? I tested this theory and I do not agree, the performance is exacly the same... I use the FM radio almost every day at work and it doesn't affect the performance of my SF. I'm using a custom baked rom (cannot remember the specifics of what I included) and it works great, with or without the FM radio installed
Guest lpinho Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Hi "super san francisco", this is the apk that I installed when I had the same problem that you are having now. http://hotfile.com/dl/84680653/cff032b/FM_zte.apk.html (If the moderator doesn't allow me to post the link, please tell me and I PM you with this link Regards, L.Pinho
Guest super san francisco Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 very nice;) i have compared my apk with yours and the difference was 1 kb in size, so maybe mine was simply broken... thanks anyways, working flawlessly. regards

Anyone got a link to a working version of the FM radio apk ? I get the same problem when trying to install my copy.
Guest Panita Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) Ok I've sorted the FM radio app install issue and discovered something I've not seen mentioned before. The FM_ZTE.apk from the original stock Orange ROM installs fine and is working without any impact on the phone's performance. But this stock version is only 297Kb, much smaller than 461Kb vesion which is included in the Modaco and other 2.1 custom ROMS here. Could this be why the larger version is causing slowdowns in some 2.1 ROMS and not working in 2.2 ROMS? [sebastian404's de-orangeated ROM r5] Edited December 15, 2010 by Panita

Guest Panita Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) great for finding this! What is in the other apk, and where did it come from? You mean the bigger version? That's a question you'll have to ask Paul or Sebastian I guess. Maybe it's a later version someone found and included in one of the early custom 2.1 ROMS. The stock FM app is pretty basic but it works fine on my Sebastian404 2.1 ROM. So anybody tried this orange stock FM_ZTE.apk on a 2.2 ROM to see if it works? lpinho: Thanks for the file, you have the Orange stock version there. As you can see, I found that and it seems to be the one to go with!! Edited December 15, 2010 by Panita

Sebastian is right, I got this version because I installed his version, and I needed to get the FM Radio application. @Sebastian: Off topic, will you build a version with a2sd? If yes, I will install it right now :)
Guest Johny13 Posted December 16, 2010 Report Posted December 16, 2010 There you have few different versions from different ROMs. To admin: Please dont delete it, its not warez. http://depositfiles.com/en/files/wna1uhgyy

Guest Johny13 Posted December 17, 2010 Report Posted December 17, 2010 Have you rooted your phone? For me work 1 and 2.
Guest samjam Posted December 18, 2010 Report Posted December 18, 2010 Have you rooted your phone? For me work 1 and 2. I don't think you have to root the phone if you are using clockwork and flash the custom roms. I think it doesn't work for me cos I use froyo (although I'll swear I installed r4, it reports itself as 2.2)
