Hi all,

Been searching for days and still can't get a decent answer on this one. So...

The problem is that I cannot connect to my home broadband - BT Homehub2.0 on WPA/WPA2 security - i input the password and I get 'obtaining IP' address for several minutes before it gives up.

The ironic thing is that BT uses openzone and I've signed up to this (I can use other BT customers broadband because they can use mine and is set up via an on-line form that once filled in gives me access to the internet). Seeing as I live in the middle of nowhere I know that this is effectively using my homehub anyway... and this works! But is only a temporary help, as I have to log in every time my phone sleeps and

So, does anyone know of this issue? - has anyone managed to connect to a BT HomeHub2 - please help!

Can't help with the router specifics, but ...

If the phone is asleep AND charging it doesn't break the wifi connection (if you have the wifi advanced setting "never sleep" chosen). That setting is not acted on when its on internal power.

You could extend the time before the screen (and thus wifi) sleeps.

Those steps should minimise your re-logins to Openzone.

However, these are just sticking plaster workarounds.

Aside from the SF's known v1.0 wifi quirks, it sounds as though there may be something strange in the router setup limiting the number of connections available to you, possibly because of maximising the number available to other passing BT customers ... I think you need to ensure that you aren't being excluded from your own router because of the way it is setup. Ordinarily your security might be setup to limit the number of (in-house) connections (by restricting the DHCP pool of addresses), or permit only devices already known (a MAC whitelist), or even having DHCP turned off with everything having its own static IP address. Those would normally be deliberate (manual) security setup choices, (but I dunno how your thing sets itself up). And all those (and probably many other) things could give the sort of grief you are encountering. But, although (or maybe because) I simply don't know the detail of how much of your router is reserved for your own use, I'd suspect that might be where the trouble lies. Certainly the first thing I'd want to investigate.

Maybe just entering the password on your phone is only 1/2 of whats required..

It could be that your router security needs to be told to accept the phones mac address as a valid / allowed device before it will issue an ip address??

So log into your routers set up and have a look.

I have a Dell Streak phone (2.1) and a BT HomeHub2, guess what ... I have the same problem. I have noticed that the Streak leases everything single address on the hub and then never connects. Also what I see is massive amounts hits in the MAC table for the phone ... xxxx.xxxx.xxxx-1 xxxx.xxxx.xxxx-2 xxxx.xxxx.xxxx-3 etc. I have told the router to always lease a specific address to the MAC but no good. I think it's BT's software in the Hub.

It can work if you reboot the Hub and phone, but that's not acceptable. I'm going to try different options to see if I can find a workaround.

Well keep me posted. I've been on the forums for BT as well and still no joy. I do get the impression the issue lies with the Hub rather than the phone and maybe has something to do with the hub being used for BTopenzone/BT Fon too?

I installed wi-fi analyser and before I connect to a wireless network you can see 3 graphs - MY hub name, BT openzone and BT Fon - they're all the same thing. I live in the middle of nowhere so there isn't anything else here. As soon as I connect to openzone (or fon for that matter), the graphs for the other two connections disappear.

Just have no idea how to proceed!
