Guest malooga Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) With my Orange sim in my phone i get HSDPA speeds even with a crappy signal, with my T-Mobile sim in the phone i only get 3g speeds even though i have a full signal and 3g+ showing, the same T-Mobile sim in my iphone gives HSDPA speeds so it isn't the sim. Why can't i get full speed internet using T-Mobile in my san fran? Its doing my head in bigtime, does anybody get HSDPA using a network other than Orange? As somebody has said there was a cap on my account, had it removed now so hopefully my speeds will increase. Edited November 4, 2010 by malooga
Guest Stuart_f Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 I get HSDPA on T-Mobile. Speed test right now is showing 1928 kbps down, 405 kbps up.

Guest Aquilo Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Just ran a speed test, ~1980kbit down, 400 up. Your ROM may not be configured for HSXPA. Go into Settings > About > Status and post the "Mobile network type" value. It should say HSDPA, though may say UMTS if your ROM hasn't been configured for HSXPA.

Mobile network type HSDPA I'm going to ring T-Mobile and try and get through to the tech department, i don't think i have had this sim in my iphone and gotten HSDPA speeds, think that was a pay and go sim that had 6 months free net on it.

Reason I ask is because T-Mobile cap your speed if you are on their 1Gb FUP. You have to call them and get them to remove the cap.
Guest The Jason8r Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 I get HSDPA on't mobile too. I was getting 270kbps down - I phoned up customer services and had them refresh from their end and my speed did go up... to about 450kbps - a far cry from the 1928kbps quoted. I've never had blisteringly fast speeds from 't mobile. It's a price you pay for not having to pay for going over the FUP. What kind of speeds are people getting from Giff Gaff?
Guest m_w_clarke Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 I get D/L speeds of ~1900 kbps with my t-mobile sim. They alos bumped me to the HSDPA plan for nothing (because they previously didnt tell me I WASNT allowed to have it - so I argued that they couldnt take it off me when they did)

I'm on orange and it says umts, how can I change this? using modaco r4
Guest Stuart_f Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 I'm on orange and it says umts, how can I change this? using modaco r4 it's not the rom. If the cell you are connected to hasn't been upgraded to hsdpa 3g+ then it will give you umts 3g

If the cell you are connected to hasn't been upgraded to hsdpa 3g+ then it will give you umts 3g do you mean the mast? I'll have a look when I'm in town (liverpool city centre) tonight and see if theres any difference - it must surely be 3g+ there but according to the orange coverage map it should be 3g+ where I am now but I've never once had it.
