Guest spanner44 Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 I have started this new thread as I am shortly about to try the upgrade to the CM6 rom, and I have tried searching the orginal CM6 Topic but it is getting so confusing that I am more confused than ever over the need or pros and cons of dta2sd. Can anyone explain in basic terms if and why this should or not be used, over the built in version including what the advantages are. I know that some of this will be down to personal preference, but I just trying to understand the basics of it all before I commit myself to the install. Thanks in advance.
Guest SpankyHam Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 From what I can see (and this is in my very limited understanding), the FroYo a2sd doesn't move the entire file to the sd card, only part of it. dta2sd on the other hand creates a link from the normal location to the SD card.. This then the OS into thinking that the files are being stored on the phone. The problem with the FroYo a2sd is that I couldn't move protected apps to the SD card (which you can do with dta2sd). Looking around, there is a work around avaliable: Here which is working great for me at the moment. Also using 'Move apps2sd" from the market to make moving them easier. I don't know if there are any benefits, but personally I don't see the need to run another service if the existing a2sd is working fine.
Guest twrock Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 Can anyone with the latest info on the Froyo a2sd let us know if the widget restriction has been solved (i.e. widgets and apps with widgets couldn't go to SD). That was a problem for me when I first installed CM6.1 and was using the built-in version. The other problem I saw was how quickly my space was dropping with the Froyo version (vs. the good job DT Apps2SD was doing in moving more onto SD). I think that's what SpankyHam is referring to. So, at the moment, I'm really happy with DT Apps2SD.
Guest spanner44 Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 So is there any speed advantage by using one system over the other, and if I installed the dta2sd mod, wouldn't this clash with the built in version, or do you manually have to config it ?

No clash if you don't turn on the built-in apps 2 sd. I don't know what happens if you turn them both on.

Here are three posts that directly deal with the discussion of which is better. Guest spanner44 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 I have installed CM6 with the dta2sd but it doesn't seem to be moving the apps to Sd card as I have a Low on Space symbol, saying that i am running out of storage space on my phone. How do I activate it, or will I need to reinstall ?

Guest spanner44 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Hi, Follow up this: http://android.modaco.com/content/t-mobile...-and-oc-kernel/ This is worked for me... cheers Thanks, but this is the guide that I have been following, step by step. I did have a problem with the swap, but after some searching through the various threads, i think I have that sorted, but the d2sd app does not seem (well it can't be if i am low on Phone space) working. before I installed I made sure that i had created the right ext2 and swap space besides the Fat32 partition but it can't seem to find it. I am tempted to try and re-create the partitions through Rom Manager, but don't want to if I don't have to, as i will have to first move my existing files off my SD card, which i don't mind if it works but would like advice first.
