FIXED?: Steve's Froyo: Intermittent Wifi Connectivity Problems

This seems to be happening with no clear pattern.

The phone will be fine switching inbetween wifi and 3g data..

then suddenly i'd try to turn wifi back on with no luck.

I go to the wifi section in the settings to go check [assuming whatever widget i'm using to turn it on and off to be the problem] and find it says "Error".

I'm not able to connect to wifi until i restart.

Does anyone know whether this is a known problem and how to fix it?

PS: I vaguely remember a post like this in the monster froyo thread but cant seem to find it. I'm posting this for my own sake and other people that may have this problem.

++++

Update [Fixed] : With Stephen's intruction below:

I connected to my PC and sent the command:

rmmod dhd

this time I didnt get an error so I went to disable and re-enable it wifi and it's worked.

It looks like it's been working all this time but I didnt re-enable it because of the error I was getting.

Next time it happens, I will try the command from the device itself and not from adb sheel and update the thread

If That works, I'll write a little shell script or get Tasker to send that command whenever the connection conks out again.

At least I didnt have to reboot this time!

suspect its due to driver issue, next time go into a terminal and drop to root and try typing rmmod dhd then see if wifi will reenable

I am on froyo version 1.1.1 with 2.1baseband because of using rebel sim I have not upgraded further.

Now yes the problem with wifi it sometimes work and most of the times does not. I saw that it has a problem obtaining IP address from the router.

What to do....?

another observation with this problem.

When I tried to root the device with Universal Androot it did not root the first time so I did it again and this time it rooted the device but at the time it was rooting I saw that the wifi turned on properly and turned off then after rooting it turned on again by itself properly working but only for a minute or so and after that altough the wifi connection was showing in the notification area but could not browse. So I turned off the wifi and then tried to turn on again but the same problem could not get it turned on as it is contantly trying to obtain IP from the router.

So what could it be....

You need to look into this. so that we can also take full advantage of the rom. I connor upgrade to 1.2 as I am on rebel sim.

So please look into the 1.1.1 version also with the old base band users.

thanks.
