Guest matt_tee Posted November 4, 2010 Report Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) Hello all, I have been trying to install a2sd onto my san fran, but I am having difficulty with the sd card partitioning fat32/ext2.... As I speak, I am having one more attempt, following step by step guide. Please, has anybody cooked a custom rom with a2sd installed, so that I can just flash the rom and a2sd will just 'work'? I really appreciate all the help that people have given me here, and I am loving the modding/flashing/de-branding experience, but this is annoying me now :) ! So thanks again, Matt. ****** EDIT ******** I have managed to do it, following instructions on this forum. Patience is a virtue! And making sure you read the whole post first, before you start, helps!! Matt. Edited November 5, 2010 by matt_tee

Guest matt_tee Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 Hi SamH, The guide that I used was this one: http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/showthre...r-the-ZTE-Blade Just remember to partition your memory card, using Ubuntu Live CD (GParted). Put the EXT2 after the Fat32. (Create the Fat32 partition first, then the EXT2). follow the instructions precisely. It may take a few attempts, but it is worth it in the end. Hope this helps, Matt. P.S Thank you 900i for the upload of your baked rom, I will give it a try at some time, just got mine working with a2sd, but thank you.
Guest Francesco89 Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 after having done all, how do I transfer applications from cell to sd?

Been looking all over for how to get a2sd working, must've missed any other link to the extra zip... installed... a few minutes of worry as the existing apps were moved across (eventually realised that was what was taking so long), then, success! over 110mb moved onto the SD card.
Guest matt_tee Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 after having done all, how do I transfer applications from cell to sd? Hi Francesco89, It should 'just work'. download quick system info, from Market. When you run it, it should show a2sd status, if you have flashed it right. Matt.
Guest SamH Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the link Matt, Sadly I can't get it to work! Followed instruction for prepping the memory card, then jumped to flashing the zip stage as I've got clockworkmod recovery installed when I flashed Seb's r5 rom. You posted that it may take a few tries. Tries of what? the whole process ie formatting the SD card or just flashing the zip? I also backed up the SD card before I partitioned it then I copied the data back to the fat32 partition before flashing the zip file. QuickSystemInfo displays "Information not available" under A2SD storage Any suggestions greatly appreciated Sam Edited November 9, 2010 by SamH

Switch off the phone and remove the sd card. 3. Reboot your PC with the GParted cd in the drive and boot from that. 4. Once Gparted is running, you should have the number of hard drives you have + the SD card. The sd card is last. 5. Select that and delete all the partitions completely. 6. Select new and create you FAT32 partition. (EXAMPLE; My card is 8GB, set Fat 32 to 7GB) 7. Once done, select the remaining unallocated space and create new ext 2 partition. (I set size to 1000Mib for a 1GB ext2 partition) 8. Once done, shutdown your PC, don't reboot that froze my PC. 9. Remove card and plug into phone. Start phone as usual and let it load. 10. ????????????????????????????????? 11. PROFIT! To check its working just use quick system info and the A2SD section should show the memory usage. Bear in mind that the internal phone memory is still used a fair whack for cacheing so it might not be immediately notcieable that you've managed to do it correctly. I spent forever thinking I messed up when my internal phone memory kept going down.
Guest funkimon Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 I've been having problems with this also. Followed the guide step by step didn't work. Retried flashing and mounting unmounting in clockwork. I've got it to work once then wanted a new theme on phone and had to reboot and it stopped working. Could it be a problem with some of our memory cards? 8gb class 4
Guest SamH Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 This is soo frustrating..... Still can't get this to work. Have tried so many times now without a glimpse of success. Think I'll live without it but I do find it hard to admit defeat. Just can't understand why it won't work. I'm using an 8Gb class 6 card Thanks to all who have offered help
Guest buneech Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Check if the second partition is mounted anywhere while the phone is running.
Guest ezablade Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Got the card set up, R4 didn't work, added the A2SD zip from further up this topic, and it started working. Re-booted the phone yesterday, it got stuck on a loop at the Modaco logo, had to restore a clockworkmod backup and then install all the stuff I'd installed since I did the backup... moral of this is... back up your phone before doing anything!!! Still not got A2SD working

Guest fredewis Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Hi guys just want to thank 900i for his cooked rom worked great all i had to do was partition my sd card and vualaaa! It was sorted a2asd worked! So have a go at partitioning it i had mine done on my pulse using amonra recovery then transfered it over to sanfran and it worked.
Guest 900i Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Glad it worked for you
Guest ezablade Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 When you got a bootloop, you should have started the phone without the sd card. And then what? Reboot it again with the card? Is this a fix or a temporary workaround to get into the phone? Could do with A2SD working, as I only have a small amount of internal storage left. Don't want to try the Froyo port yet, as the things that seem to not be working 100% are the very things I want the phone for! Cheers.
Guest SamH Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 Check if the second partition is mounted anywhere while the phone is running. As I suspected.... I couldn't let this go unsolved! Using a terminal app have run "a2sd check" and produced the following results (see attachment) The SD card has been formatted correctly (several times!) and I've tried alternative cards too. Taking a screen shot is a hit & miss affair. Phone IS rooted but both screenshot apps I've been trying work intermittently. Could this "super user" issue be causing the problem? How do I mount the Ext2 partition? Regards Sam
Guest Freekers Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 (edited) I get exactly the same error as SamH (above). However, I don't have problems making screenshots etc. Anyway, my microSD card is formatted correctly and I've installed apps2sd using clockworkmod but it still isn't working. Quick System Info show 'No information Available' under A2SD Storage also SDext is mounted in ClockWork.... Help is well appreciated !! Edited November 10, 2010 by Freekers
Guest buneech Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 (edited) On my galaxy spica the sd card is mounted at /system/sd. You can check if you have a folder named sd in your system partition, and if it is infact empty. And from SamH's screenshot I see, that the mount point is the same. You can mount it with the following command (you have to do this just once): mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system/sd Also, you can see the desired effect if you just write mount in the terminal emulator.
