Speaker Playback

I'm a Metalhead n need playback of my Metal tracks to be good quality on the phone if not great ! Everything else plays fine than a Rock/Metal track. Its no doubt that the audio quality on the headphones is great. I also understand that those low quality speakers on the Optimus suck.

So now what's the solution to eliminate the crackling + hiss sound?

Can I apply some software application? Can I change the speaker hardware? Can I alter the music files in a way that they dont produce crackling sound but still sound loud enough on speakers?

P.S : Many of the music files I download are originally encoded at a low volume i.e. some of the music files are low volume, while others are higher volume (based on how they were encoded by the uploaders). I always amplify the volume using the freeware "Wavepad" due to the low volume of files. I experimented by first applying a reverb to the files n then amplifying them to see if they no more produce a crackling sound.

Please help me if someone knows what I'm talkin abt.

Reverberation is the persistence of sound in a particular space after the original sound is removed

In Other words, repeated extension of your noise as well... not really a big help.

Ultimately are you looking to play music through the built-in speakers or through the headphone jack?

Why? well hardware wise there's not much you can do, unless of course you want to dissect and fabricate until you come to a solution of your own.

If music coming through the jack is your aim, you have 2 possible solutions:

1. When you amplify any music depending on how much it is amplified (in decibels) it WILL crackle/hiss. You could always try using sound editing software to amplify and remove noise before the audio goes on the phone. This in essence would leave it up to you whats leveled, loud and crackle free and whats not. Audacity(Free) or even Adobe Sound Booth(Paid) would help with this.

I have yet to come across any actual droid app that does the same.

2. Install one of the music apps with an EQ, for example Mixzing Pro (paid app) and fiddle with the EQ settings till you find one that works for you. Though I doubt it will help you much.

Bear in mind, SOFT music amplifier WILL crackle. Try going for music encoded with a higher bitrate for better quality. O, and normalizing your tracks also helps with the loud/soft issue.

Hey, thanx for replying.

I have mentioned in the above post that I use "Wavepad" to amplify my music. I'm in no doubt that my music over headphones sounds awesome on my LG Optimus, but I really like listening to my stuff on speakers, too.

Today, when I transferred my amplified music files on my friend's Nokia 5800, to check how they sound on his speakers, I found that they sound faaar better than on my device, which confirms that its the fault of the speaker hardware.

If there's still something I can do on the software side, I cud try removing the noise and/or normalize the files as u rightly reminded me, else I might want to try out searching for someone who can replace my LG speakers with either Nokia's or some else, if thats possible.

More suggestions on the topic are welcome. Help me.

Have a look at PowerAMP Music Player which has a special setting in it's equaliser for speaker playback.

nice call... looking forward to the paid release.

I almost solved the issue of the crackling/hiss sound on speaker playback by playing around with the software "Wavepad".

In this software, I applied the following to the mp3 files in the given sequence:

1. Automatic Gain Control

2. Equalizer - Band Stop

3. Stereo Pan

4. Amplify - 200%

Since I aint able to upgrade to 2.1 due to some issues with the LG update tool, I wont be able to use the PowerAmp for some time. I need warranty n dont risk going the unofficial way to upgrade.
