root & Custom rom?

Hi,

I'm almost a newbie about the android world... i've got a HUAWEI u8230, ver.A (with less internal storage :S), i've some question, about rooting, exct:

1) I read the "Ultimate Pulse Guide", and i was interested in installing a custom rom (and in future the Cyanogen :) ), in the guide is said to install it with a recovery tool, like AmonRa or Clockwork, but.. do I need root provilages to use them? if yes, how can i root my cellphone?

2) Becouse the version of my cell is the one with less memory, and in the guide about the Cyanogen is recomended to have an official 2.1 version pre-installed, if I install the Flibblesan's FLB MOD 1 before i try doing the same for the Cyanogen, will i have problems with the internal partition?

PS: nowadays i've the RBM2 mod (official from RedBull Mobile, coocked for my version of the device).

3) I can use both ubuntu and windows 7, what do you think is worth for doing the different processes? and for patitioning the SD (a 8 GB CLASS 4)?

thanks a lot :)

1.

installing a recovery tool does not need your phone to be rooted, the rom you are going to install will be rooted.

2.

i do not know which version of android rbm is based on, however you will need a 2.1 rom installed before installing any 2.1 based custom rom. if rbm is 2.1 based, then you will be able install flb and cm as well without a problem. if not, install an official 2.1 rom before installing any custom rom.

3.

you can use any os you wish, it does not really matters. use the one you are more familiar with, drivers are avilable for both systems. partitioning the sd card is the most easiest from recovery from the phone.
