Guest Dario93 Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 (edited) Hey people surfing the net, i found this kitchen on XDA. Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246 The post says that's compatible only with HTC devices, but i did some tests, and it seems working well for Acer Liquid. For example my Rom (now available v1.5) have been made with this kitchen :) THIS KITCHEN MUST BE USED UNDER LINUX (I SUGGEST UBUNTU 9.10 OR UP) FOR BETTER COMPATIBILITY,BUT CAN USED WITH MAC OF COURSE AND WINDOWS,ONLY WITH A VIRTUAL MACHINE RUNNING LINUX. To use the kitchen, just follow the instructions on the original post, but if you have problems just ask me! :) Note: this kitchen is not my work so all credits to dsixda from XDA forum Good Cooking :( Dario Edited November 5, 2010 by Dario93

Some more changes may have to be made. But menu thingy is not my taste, even for beginners rom makers, they should understand where things are and what they do. So they can feel in control of their own experiment. I have set-up my kitchen with google code, but won't show 'cause there is nothing there yet. I'm trying to find time as i am busy with other things too. Anybody have tried this kitchen with liquid, could update us. good luck

About the lquidbootimg, what is the main difference between that and mkbootimg? I could add that if necessary. Also I read your comments and am wondering what you would recommend to make it better then. A GUI is out of the question as I'd need to make it work for all three platforms and I don't have the time and expertise for that. Don't be fooled by looks B) The kitchen was intended for beginners so it is user-friendly enough - most people who use it say they learned a lot and there is descriptive help when you select an option. I'm trying to get it more stable these days and also trying to make it capable of working with more non-HTC devices. If you guys have ideas, let me know. Thanks! Edited November 23, 2010 by D I

B) Greetings, Dario Yes, I am, thanks. ;-) Pretty much the motivation for the kitchen was that newbies were not getting help for creating their own custom ROMs (eg. try asking certain people in this forum - you'd get ignored :)), or the information was maybe not clear enough to most people.
Guest split2th Posted November 24, 2010 Report Posted November 24, 2010 Can't wait to play with this. Thanks.

Guest split2th Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Hey. I know this is an old one. But I would like to take advantage of this kitchen for this one reason. I have 85 mb's available on my system partition that is being wasted. I don't know if it is possible or how to resize the partitions. So, I figure I can just cook a rom that takes advantage of that unused space, by adding the applications that are most important to me. So I have a few questions. Is there any way to simply install apps to my system partition? Will this kitchen work with Liquid E? Only Liquid is mentioned in the thread. Is there any other way to solve my problem? like resizing partitions. How do I change mkbootimg with lquidbootimg?
Guest Thmz159 Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) Yes I would want it too. It's such a waste of memory. This is what I found about partitions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=855424 but the script modifies a kernel or something. It has been ported to some other devices. The simplest way would be indeed to install as a system app or move it. But how... On mine device I dont have much space in /system (25mb) but I have 65 mb free in /cache EDIT: I've read that it is possible to push it to the system directory? Edited December 15, 2010 by Thmz159
Guest zbrin Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 Is there any way to simply install apps to my system partition? About this, you have root explorer which allows you to move apps to system partition, or you can just use in terminal/dos: "adb push APPAPK.apk /system/app" with adb remount before or mv /data/app/APPAPK.apk /system/app/APPAPK.apk in terminal emulator you will need busybox for the later.

Wow! Thanks so much. I can't believe I've never heard of root explorer. I've already moved a bunch of apps, np. Can you tell me what else I can safely move from data to system. I guess I could use trial and error, but I don't want to have to restore my nandroid 20 times today. Thanks again.

Guest split2th Posted December 15, 2010 Report Posted December 15, 2010 (edited) You can move all the apps from data to system :) This is a great solution. I've moved all of my apps from data to system. With more of the new apps that already support apps to sd in froyo and moving my older apps to system. I now have enough room for maybe another 30 or 40 more useless apps, lol. This is a great day. PS. my phone feels like it's been faster and more stable all day. It's already very stable and fast, but it is just feeling very polished. Almost iphone-ish. Edited December 15, 2010 by split2th
