Guest dj9928 Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 It is shockingly bad, My 0.7mp iPod Touch produces better pictures, Ok it does me ok for putting pics on Twitter etc so isn't a big problem but its bad, very bad. Its not to bad in day light, its acceptable, but indoors even in bright light as the pic below is its horrible, and the below pic is edited using picedit, it was worse again.
Guest Afrodude Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 Mega Pixels mean very little - the lens quality means alot though. The camera isn't very good on the SF.

Yes the camera is a weakness on the SF, if taking pics with the camera select the lowest ISO (Camera Options) to get better results if your shooting in low light try and keep the Phone as steady as you can.

I've got some good results by using anything but the standard camera app :) Vignette is very good. Edited November 6, 2010 by G0DSPEED
Guest chris54621 Posted November 6, 2010 Report Posted November 6, 2010 you cant expect eveything to be perfect for £99. I knew from day 1 that camera is not that impressive , gud in only day light. but guyz screen is awesome thats the main thing in SF .
Guest Teasy Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 (edited) The back plate has an effect on the camera as well. Try taking a picture, then remove the back of the phone and take the same picture, you'll see the difference. Of course the only way to fix this properly is to remove the plastic covering the camera (drilling a whole or cutting the plastic away). Example: With back on: With back off: Edited November 7, 2010 by Teasy

Guest Teasy Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) lol..good to know.. It seems to be an issue that effects quite a few phones. But its particularly bad with this one, I haven't done any drilling yet though  Edited November 8, 2010 by Teasy

Guest JolyonS Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Wow. Do we know why this happens? Alos, BEER! I'd quibble with the 'beer' w00ting - just fizzy pish. It's pretty easy to speculate that improvement with the cover off is due to the plastic being dirty / scratched / just a bit crap - the less junk between the lens and the subject the better. If would be interesting to see if cleaning the cover inside and out on a new phone can produce an image that approaches the cover-off shot in quaility.
Guest oh!dougal Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) Megapixels is the unit of measure for the number of 'dots' in the camera's image data. The SF camera has a bit of a problem with 'noise'. The data for each dot isn't terribly accurate. And nearby dots, that should give the same reading, give a different one. This isn't about the number of dots, its about the R G & B brightnesses of the dots. All digital cameras will have some noise. Its not a problem as long as its small in comparison to the true info. With the SF, its OK when the signal is strong - like in good daylight. But the poorer the lighting, the more the noise shows up. And because the SF has no flash, all indoor photos have pretty low level lighting. So they show LOTS of noise - seen as one sort of fuzziness. Regarding the lens cover, keep it VERY clean and unscratched ... Edited November 8, 2010 by oh!dougal
