Edit APK files and Java Windows 7 help needed please

I've been trying to figure out how to edit the xml files inside APK files, but I'm stuck

they are some sort of binary file.

I found a tool for editing them (I think) here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701

However it needs Java

I'm using Windows 7 and I have Java installed, but obviously not the version needed for this to work

Anyone any ideas what exactly I need to get this to work?

Its actually axmlprinter to convert xml to txt but it does not work with win 7. Look for apktool.thats what i use and u still need java but this woeks.....apktool will decde the apk file and you can edit the xml files notepad

Thanks, I got all that but its the Java thing thats throwing me

What version of Java do I need?

or is it a different package or devoloper app or something?
