Guest ashdragon Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 Ok just managed to f* up the top corner of lcd on my streak.. any one any ideas best way to fix.. still working but looks awful I assume by dropping it? Bugger!!! Contact Paul, maybe u can nick the screen from the one he bricked  Failing that maybe you can tell the insurance Company that an attempt was made by guys in Black suits and Sunglasses from Dell to Prevent you from modding the device and it was damaged in the ensuing struggle
Guest XsCode Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 There's a guy in the other thread that doesn't like his, maybe he'll let you have it cheap  Ok just managed to f* up the top corner of lcd on my streak.. any one any ideas best way to fix.. still working but looks awful

Guest TimoBeil Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 (edited) Hi, This is very annoying. The glass and the LCD is only as a unit (sealed). It is very expensive. In Germany it costs 180 €. A guide to disassemble the Streak is here: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Dell-Streak-Teardown/3512/1 Quote from a German Forum (sorry for my Translation): Disassembly is actually quite simple - a lot is glued with a thin, extremely strong double-sticky tape. It can thus not easily solved. With patience, the perfect tool and two old credit cards but it has worked. Time because I don't wanted to destroy anything: 1 hour - would now, as I know, had run well also be possible in 25 minutes. IMPORTANT: unplugging cameras really! They would have otherwise probably tear - do not forget Image 3 - even the ribbon cable under Step 9th In addition, the ribbon cable from the display quite sensitive and could be demolished when looping (a step that is not illustrated) But otherwise feasible - with the necessary calm and serenity. It is possible. Edited November 7, 2010 by TimoBeil

Guest gilrad Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Are there any visible marks on the body? If not, you could probably claim the screen broke in your pocket. It's such a common problem from what I have heard they likely won't question it and cover it under warranty.
Guest mancterrier Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Carphone warehouse quoted me £40 for a new screen replacement! But could take upto 28 days to get it back...
Guest dairymasta Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 My LCD cracked, got it fixed via O2 on warranty for free and they sent me a whole new unit with accessories and everything. http://android.modaco.com/content/dell-str...d/#entry1456475 more info there

Woot, dell doing it as a "one off" replacement as goodwill gesture. Will take anywhere between 3-6 weeks. I'm gonna be streakless from the 10th    Hope you get yours sorted too steve
