Guest Spank_1973 Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 Hi I was looking for a new MP3 player to replace my 6 year old 20GB Sony machine & found the San Francisco & figured that I could replace it with this (as well as up grading my W377 Motorola) it will kill 2 birds with 1 stone & have 1 less charger. From what I’ve read this phone sounds awesome for the price, but as I say I’m a total noob when it comes to smart phones, so have some questions. 1.Music – I’m planning to put mp3 music on (already got the card), can I just transfer them to a micro sd card & put it in the phone? 2.Movies – Can I put DVD’s on the straight onto the card? (these are already compressed to a single layer dvdr) 3.Android-Will flashing to 2.2 invalidate the warranty? (I’m a noob on smart phone, but have years of PC experience & flashing ROM’s doesn’t frighten me) 4.Internet – I am not really interested as I have access to pc at home & at work, but understand that I can use free Wi-Fi (told U I was a total noob) & disable 3G is this easy or will some apps ignore this & use up my talk time on their own? 5.Apps – what would you recommend for a beginner? 6.Bloat ware- what can I get rid of straight out the box? I know that some (if not more) of this has probably been answered before, but there’s 22 pages to go through & I have a crappy old (probably less power than the phone) PC atm that crashes a lot. Yes 2.Movies – Can I put DVD’s on the straight onto the card? (these are already compressed to a single layer dvdr) Not unless they are further formatted AFAIK 3.Android-Will flashing to 2.2 invalidate the warranty? (I’m a noob on smart phone, but have years of PC experience & flashing ROM’s doesn’t frighten me) Yes 4.Internet – I am not really interested as I have access to pc at home & at work, but understand that I can use free Wi-Fi (told U I was a total noob) & disable 3G is this easy or will some apps ignore this & use up my talk time on their own? Yes 5.Apps – what would you recommend for a beginner? Dolphin browser, Adobe PDF. 6.Bloat ware- what can I get rid of straight out the box? There is a thread on how to de-orange it without flashing always on the first page.

Spank 1. Yes Music works great, but i'd suggest better head/ear phones, the ones given with the phone are crap. Also, the standard music player seems to stutter for me sometimes, so i use Winamp [you might've used it on the pc] 2. Get rockplayer from the market, should play those straight away. 3. Might invalidate it, but you could flash it with the stock rom when you need to give it to Orange for service. 4. Yes, you can turn off 3G data and use wifi at home instead. No, apps wont go for 3G instead. 5. Depends, could you list stuff you need? Somethings that you always would need, that arent installed are Compass Launcher Pro/ADW - Much better than the stock launcher or Orange's. Google Talk - for some reason not included in Orange's rom, you can find the apk in the forums here or at XDA.6. Guest rayraven Posted November 7, 2010 Report Posted November 7, 2010 Raven I don't know what I want or what is available, where's the best place to get apps, through the phone or on lone? There's an app for that...oh wait.. You can install apps through the android market, its available on the San Francisco. You'll need to be on Wifi/3G. There's literally thousands of apps, you could start by looking at the Top Free apps in the market and go from there. But, yeah, there should be an app for pretty much anything you could/wanted to do on a phone  Cheers, ray
