Guest Snooky64 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 I bought an Orange San Francisco and have now unlocked it and it has my Virgin Mobile sim in. My problem at the moment is that I'm not getting any predictive text on the default Android keyboard. I have TouchPal installed but I can't see any way in the settings menu to tell Android that I want to use a different keyboard. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Does the device have to be rooted or have a custom ROM to allow it? Thanks to all on this forum who provided so much information and have helped me get this far. I love this phone.
Guest asim18 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) Long press on any text box, then select "input method". Edited November 8, 2010 by asim18
Guest razialita Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Long press on any text box, then select "input method". possibly it's a bug for custom froyo, after selecting input method nothing happened, even though I have installed two other keyboards. Now I'm stuck to the stock keyboard. pretty bad
Guest Snooky64 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Long press on any text box, then select "input method". Well b***er me, that works - thanks a lot! (bit weird it can't be configured from the settings, but hey)

Guest john306 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 When I installed Swype yesterday I had to activate it first before I could change the keyboard.... Settings > Language and Keyboard > Tick the keyboard you want to use, then you can "Long press on any text box, then select "input method".

With Swype in landscape mode do get the send key or is it just in portrait mode?

Guest john306 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Where can you get swype from? According to the rules I'm not allowed to say... sorry, just do a google
Guest john306 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 With Swype in landscape mode do get the send key or is it just in portrait mode? Never noticed that before but no, it's not in landscape, good job I only ever use portrait. The way you can get it to work in landscape is to write out your text then hit the "back" button on phone which clears the keypad then the "send " button appears, bit of a pain to be honest. It's so accurate though I'll stick to portrait
