Guest Stephen Hyde Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 ok folks im working on what should become Alpha 1 of my overclock capable kernel. just posting this to gauge interest of what route users would prefer to install this via, it'll be the kernel + new wifi module
Guest matty.cptk Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Voted for Update.zip as standalone kernel. i think it should be a seperate choice for users who dont want the temptation to put rocketfuel in our minis
Guest popetodd Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh Mista Hyde me Mista Hyde ooh ooh ooh over heah Mista Hyde! Update.zip if you don't want to answer a million questions about how to use flashboot. +1 @ matty.cptk, there are going to be those who don't want it as well. Edited November 8, 2010 by popetodd
Guest User Error Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 update zip as part of a new froyo sounds like the one for me, although would definitely try it out any way i can get it
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 LOL ust need to add a few more thangs before its ready
Guest Dogmann55 Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Hi all, I also voted Update.Zip as standalone kernel as also IMO that gives users the greatest choice on if they want to do it or not and also possibly the easiest method and therefore the least chance of it going wrong or people getting into trouble doing it and needing fixes. But at the end of the day what ever is easiest for Steve to do should be the right choice IMO at this point I'm so happy with how my Streak is running really not sure i feel its needed but it could be a major improvement so i suppose I'll wait and see what it delivers. Marc
Guest parcsalooc Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 All the above!!! And if you don't do it, I will bitch, complain, and throw a hissy fit!
Guest strvmarv Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 LOL ust need to add a few more thangs before its ready Dibs! Uh, wait, I mean...ME TOO! Update.zip would be awesome, especially if I could just drop it on top of my 1.2.
Guest TimoBeil Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Voted for Update.zip as standalone kernel. i think it should be a seperate choice for users who dont want the temptation to put rocketfuel in our minis Yes! And if possible, a "downgrade.zip", if there will be problems after tuning.
Guest rovex Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Standalone Update.zip please. Its the way its normally done on other devices it seems. Its certainly the way it was done for the Desire on XDA. Also the original kernel as the same if poss, in case it all goes wrong.
Guest rebski Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 I am looking forward too to the new WiFi module. There has to be a fixable reason why my iPhone 3GS was 50% faster than the Streak on the SpeedTest.net test. Basically I am up for whatever you choose to give us, so whatever suits you best. I am just so grateful that you are keeping these goodies coming.
Guest gillebob Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 All the above!!! And if you don't do it, I will bitch, complain, and throw a hissy fit! +1
Guest degriz Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Can you explain slightly more what each option means? /newb
Guest popetodd Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) Option 1: Full update.zip installation, replacement of all system files to bring it to the labelled version. Would work if going from 1.1.1 to 1.2. Option 2: Just the required kernel files to update an existing 1.2 installation with OC capability in an update.zip style install package. Option 3: Option 2 done the hard way, the same way we installed 1.2, with flashboot and crossed fingers. Option 4: The Barbrady option: Move along, nothing to see here. Guest synaptic.flaws Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 ok folks im working on what should become Alpha 1 of my overclock capable kernel. just posting this to gauge interest of what route users would prefer to install this via, it'll be the kernel + new wifi module well since you are asking as long as there is a way to disable the overclock, then either is fine. it should be a tweak in the build.prop? we need to run a pool on who gets the update out first, you or dell?
Guest degriz Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Im with option 2 then. Many thanks for explaining things. Way to much stuff to remember at the moment
Guest Mark ...... Posted November 8, 2010 Report Posted November 8, 2010 Whats new in the wifi stack? Will it contain this fix? http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=8804#c41 ^^ Apparently this has been put into the Cyanogen mod?
Guest jizzyjay Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 ok folks im working on what should become Alpha 1 of my overclock capable kernel. just posting this to gauge interest of what route users would prefer to install this via, it'll be the kernel + new wifi module Hi Steve Loved your work on Froyo. Just updated to your last version and i have to say its awesome. Noticed on your latest thread your working on an overclock for the streak. Im well interested in that and would love a how to. Im pretty computer savvy but not to programmer level or anything like that. With a few instructions im sure i could get the job done. So do I want an overclock? Hell Yeah!
Guest Cue_32 Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Standalone Update.zip please. Its the way its normally done on other devices it seems. Its certainly the way it was done for the Desire on XDA. Also the original kernel as the same if poss, in case it all goes wrong. +1
Guest punkrckriot Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 i think adding it to your froyo builld would be a good idea just so people have that option without having to flash multiple update.zip files. but i also think that a standalone .zip is a good idea for people like me who stayed with ver 1.1.1 since i couldnt get 1.2 to run correctly
Guest untrueparadox Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Yes! And if possible, a "downgrade.zip", if there will be problems after tuning. +1 to a upgrade as well as downgrade zip packages, just in case we dont like it, we wont have to reflash the whole rom and factory reset and lose all settings.
Guest CrArC Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 I will be trying this irrespective of its install method, but if I had to choose, it would be Update.zip as new version/ Update.zip as kernel. The OC kernel though, Steve - would it be OC'd by default? And what would the new 'limits' be if we were OCing manually with say, SetCPU? I remember you saying you were looking into undervolting too - will that be there? Does it affect overclocking potential? Am I asking questions that will all be answered when this kernel is released?
Guest User Error Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 haven't seen steve post on here in a few days, was hoping he'd have this out by now. hopefully he'll have some goodies for us when he returns
Guest Stephen Hyde Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 lol its gonna be a bit longer for this, realised 3d gfx is nuked by this kernel at mo. working on it still
