Has Paul from Modaco given up on the San Fran?

"San Fran sold!"

Does that mean future support for the San Francisco/Blade online kitchen will be dropped?

I can't answer that, but I can tell you that we're pretty much at a standstill at the moment as far as rom development, numerous people are trying to get us some good Froyo ports or Vanilla Eclair ports out, but it may take a while.

I think this phone will be stuck on 2.1 now.

our only hope is the chinese rom. lets hope this will be good.

I doubt ZTE will ever release the kernals.

I will be sticking with HTC in future as they are more committed to releasing updates as opposed to manufacturers like ZTE, and network operators like Orange and T-Mobile.

Plus you get SENSE UI which is amazing.

Its certainly not looking good.

Same thing happened about a year ago after I bought the Samsung Galaxy.

Thank god Drakaz (a rom developer from France) continued to produce some excellent roms and kept the phone alive.

I just hope there are enough devs behind this phone with a passion to want to bring Froyo 2.2 to the San Francisco, or dare I say it 2.3!

I'm sure if they can, ZTE will release the proper kernel source (read the end of the kernel source thread).

HTC do release updates, but HTC is bigger, and I had to wait almost a year to get 2.1 on my Hero - let's give ZTE a bit of a chance!

I'm not so fussed with Sense - it was much better than Android 1.5, but 2.1 with Launcher Pro is great.

And actually, even if I am stuck on 2.1, I'm not that fussed - it's fast, it's stable, the screen is gorgeous, and it cost £99! I would love to see a stable Froyo build, as with JIT it should fly along, but it's not a deal breaker for me.

If you read Paul's time line you would see that he is selling off a load of his tech and that the san fran he is selling is a spare

So am assuming he still has one zte blade in his possession which he will use for his dev work

Also DJ_Steve [stephen Hyde] is developing for the zte blade too with an oc on the way soon [maybe]

Wasn't there something about Paul preferring a white one?

At the moment there's not much to get excited about.

That should change in about a month's time with 2.2 (that timescale from the Japanese site touting 5mp-camera 2.2 Blades in mid-Dec)

The Chinese 2.2 is expected before then, but may still have hardware differences to the SF.

We have seen that the 2.2 Blade has passed approval testing, so its going to happen. Its just that it takes time to get manufacturing happening, and sync in the marketing people, so before Christmas sounds more likely than tomorrow or "real soon now" (ie at some indeterminate point in the future, maybe).

Whenever the production 2.2 appears, I expect it will lead to a rash (or rush) of roms based on it.

And then, after the 2.2 source is released, there will be another surge of interest.

It seems to this spectator that a 2.2 based on an oriental production model would be much more worth having than a tweaked 2.1 (any tweaked 2.1).

So from the mod-dev viewpoint, tweaking 2.1 ain't going to lead very far. Worth examining and playing around with, but more as a practice for the forthcoming 2.2 than as an end in itself.

Expect production 2.2 in the wild to catalyse the next wave of developments.

Be patient until then!

ZTE seem intent on selling this family of phones worldwide, and that has to be good (not least) for the future availability of accessories.

Remember that we in the UK have got this phone very early, and that its wrong to expect daily novelties and developments!

I hope not - this phone has the potential for more, I'm sure...

Paul is just selling his spare devices that's all. Still has a SanFran.

And we aren't going to be stuck on 2.2. We'll have an official ROM soon once we get hold of it from China and we'll also have another ROM or two

Or, to put it more succinctly:

"Patience, Glasshopper".

Hmmm. Perhaps showing my age a little there!

In contrast to imho (in my humble opinion), it's short for in my arrogant f***ing opinion .

Bahaha

Have you had an HTC phone?

We had to wait months for 2.1 on the Hero - and then they dropped support for the phone - no more updates for it less than 1yr after release.

Sense as well is so overrated. I always stuck a vanilla rom on my hero, can be slow/annoying sometimes

You guys are talking like Paul is the ultimate GOD of ROMs/rooting/etc..

Easy on it, Paul has abandoned Pulse developing a while ago and we have Cyanogenmod, great 2.1 ROMs, SWAP, A2SD and all that goodies

No offense to Paul, but there are other developers who can do the same that Paul has been doing
