Guest alltheway3 Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Apologies if this is else where, I had a search and couldn't find an answer. I've ordered the SF to replace my HTC Hero and although I'm currently on Orange, I think it's worth unlocking to future use. My question is can I unlock the phone after rooting/flashing a custom ROM or should it be done when the phone is standard? Cheers.
Guest 2k4ever Posted November 9, 2010 Report Posted November 9, 2010 Flashing a 2.2 rom will unlock the phone, but the unlock isn't permanent - if you flash back to 2.1, the phone will be locked again the question is if you are willing to use a rom in alpha stage as you have orange and can use the phone, i would use a modded 2.1 rom without unlocking the phone you can still unlock the phone later and maby till then there is a free method to do so

I planned to unlock the phone using a code and flashing a custom 2.1. Will the unlock code have to be used while the phone is standard or can I use it with custom 2.1 flashed?
Guest goatee Posted November 10, 2010 Report Posted November 10, 2010 You should be able to use the unlock code before or after a custom ROM flash, however, I unlocked mine before I rooted. Guest LordHaxXxoR Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 do you have to unlock after every rom change or do you have to unlock only once?
Guest spoonium Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 (edited) For 'normal' flashes, only once. I wonder, is there any situation that could remove an unlock? Despite a hardware fault. Edited November 11, 2010 by spoonium
Guest LordHaxXxoR Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 i bought a new unlocked blade from ebay (it's on is way) and the seller will not provide the unlock key.
Guest spoonium Posted November 12, 2010 Report Posted November 12, 2010 Heh, most likely he doesn't have it himself anymore. If for any reason the phone locks itself again, you only need to know the IMEI number to unlock it again. Would have to pay for it though.
