Initial Charging

How are you supposed to charge the phone initially, must it be turned off until the light turns green?

I plugged it in then immediately turned it on, and when the battery was 99% charged the led was still red, and whenever i unplugged the charger, the phone turned off. What is it that I am doing wrong. Currently the phone is charging turned off and will be all night. Will that work?

The LED will turn green at some point (unless it faulty). Can take a good three- four hours to charge fully.

I plugged mine in, waited until the light was green, unplugged it and turned it on. There's no special initial charge procedures for li-ion batteries. I don't know how long it took because I wasn't watching it. But I seem to recall reading estimates of around 3 hours from empty. It seems to charge from half used states a heck of a lot faster than 3 hours from empty would suggest though.
