Guest mattysk Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Hi all, Quick bit of background on this. Firstly I tried to download apps from the android market but I just got "Download Unsuccessful" in the status bar. Tried all the solutions on this and other forums but nothing worked (its bee around 36 hours now) Decided to do a factory reset. I get to the bit where it says "erase everything", click it and then a popup appears that says Factory data reset Rebooting... with the little spinny loading icon. Then nothing happens. I can still switch the phone off and I can also go back to the home page by clicking home. The other weird thing is that I can't disconnect to my google account - when I try it says that applications are using it and that I need to do a factory reset. I hope its OK to post this here. I did start another thread at http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...t/#entry1470738 but that was to do with the Android Market. It could well be that the two problems are somehow connected but I would of hoped a factory reset meant just that. Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!
Guest mattysk Posted November 11, 2010 Report Posted November 11, 2010 Fixed! I went back to the bit where it says "erase everything" but before pressing it I held the phone volume down button. Then I very quickly saw a small green robot with a small box and arrow and then the screen went blank. It then reloaded slowly, showed the orange logo for what felt like an age but BAM! - factory reset. One thing to note - I did have the SD card out when I did this. Not sure that made any difference I tried to reset it with the card out just before and had the same problem. Wouldn't work unless I pressed that button. I'll also post this on the other thread but by doing the reset, I had to enter the Google account details again which I think cleared the android market problem. Annoyingly I have to put all my settings back but that's better than a call to Orange.

I've been having marketplace problems too - either continually sitting at 'downloading' - which I resolved by creating a new google profile, or now by failing by saying - download unsuccessful. So I decided to bite the bullet and reset to factory defaults - but now it hangs on this too. I'm starting to think this ZTE blade and/or Android itself is basically poo :-) My son has an iPod touch - and i'll be honest, the experience there was vastly better than this. Doing a bit of googling I see vast numbers of people with these problems with the marketplace, yet no concrete solutions. Surely it can't be that difficult to get to the bottom of what is happening and fixing it? Anyone have a solution to doing a factory reset?
Guest mrbill1234 Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 Just thought I would add - I have not rooted this device or anything - it is running the stock android software from Orange. All I have done is remove the vendor lock and I am using a GiffGaff sim in there.
Guest mattysk Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 I'm still loving this phone and android. Its my first smart phone and I can't imagine going back really. Without using other smart phone handsets I can't really compare but it is annoying that I've had to factory reset twice. Not sure how common it is but I'd imagine this to be pretty frustrating to the sort of person who wouldn't go on forums and would just call the Orange helpline! Having said that, as someone pointed out, it may have been an issue with the market place and one of my resets wasn't needed. Just to check, does it hang in exactly the same way as mine was? - Just says "re-booting"? Have you tried pressing the volume down before pressing "erase everything"? Maybe try it with the SD card out and try and clear as much data by going through each application and clearing the cache. If that doesn't work, maybe my eventual reset was a freak or for some reason the market issue was resolved at that point and it would have been fixed anyway. Sorry if that's not very helpful and hope you solve your problem soon.

I do agree it is a marketplace issue - if you do some googling you see people with the same marketplace issues on all sorts of different phones. The reason I did the first reset was to select a new googlemail account & profile - you can't delete your main one for some reason - you have to reset to phone. And after that - everything worked fine for several hours. Later that evening, I started getting the 'download unsuccessful' errors. I tried everything to fix it and decided to reset to factory defaults again - and now this - can't reset them. Just sits there saying 'rebooting' and yes, if I press home it takes me back. I've had this phone less than 24 hours. Very frustrating. If I can't reset it, I may well send it back.
Guest mrbill1234 Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 After much fiddling - I think it is working again. I'm actually not sure WHAT fixed this - but the last thing I did was to press the reset button next to the sim slot at the back of the phone. Before that I tried booting it with the volume _up_ rather than down. Not sure what that does - I just had the little green man ad-infinitum - and pressed the reset button. All of a sudden - i was able to download apps - and the factory reset worked too. Humph. I hope this helps someone - I hope this doesn't happen to me again.
