Just bought an Orange san Francisco and unlocked it for my daughter but she now wants the Orange stuff taling off it. I can jailbreak ipods, run homebrew on PSP etc. so quite technical.

Just need a simple guide to getting this phone debranded and running at it s best without all that Orange stuff. She wants to customise it and get apps etc. so; is there a simple guide anywhere and what firmware should I be running on it. it's her birthday pressie so don't want to mess it up for her.

Any and all help appreciated.

No offence but if you are that technical you should be able to use the search option, there are many guides and this question has been asked many many more times.

Indeed, I did see many, many guides and several roms, apps etc. I just wanted to know if there was a simple and reliable method as more seasoned users of this phone may have experience. I am sure there would be several differing methods and preferred apps etc.

If there is such a definitive guide I did not see it and apologise if that offends you somehow..

My 'technical' ability was simply to point out that i am not afraid following such a process as rooting/debranding...it doesn't follow that I would immediately find a definitive article on the subject. And, as I am not familiar with the phone model itself, didn't want to risk messing it up.

Still, nice friendly reply to my first post here.

Thanks jennie, never fails to amaze me when a quick link takes less time to post than typing a 'smart' reply out. Will give it a go.

Teach a man to fish and all that

All the best posts have been stickied in the forum. There are very good videos which explain in detail every step of the process. There are various newbie guides available if you just run one quick search. So obviously people are going be be annoyed at yet another "Help me out, I know stuff but unfortunately am too busy to do a little digging"

People are happy to help if you face any issues though...

So why don't you give it your best shot first and come back here if you fail...

Which is fine, but does it really annoy people that much that they cant just ignore the post and let other people who are willing to help comment?

leaving cold comments of "search" and "its been discussed before" is really pointless and unnecessary. especially to those who are here for the first time.

Anyways.

great Phone, shame about the battery.

thats my 2 cents!

These are the apps I removed:

Guitar Hero: glu_zte_blade_ghero5_de_en_es_fr_it_1_0_1_full-wrapped.apk

Orange TV: OrangeTV.apk

Orange Wednesdays: OrangeWednesdays.apk

Weather: MobileWeather.v1.0.4.apk

French settings: FrenchPack.apk

Orange Mail: orangemail_android_721_20_7_386147_signed.apk

Orange Maps: OrangeMaps_4.65.60.95_Android_Production_signed.apk

RSS Headlines: Orange_RSS_Widget-build_2010-05-31_08-57-42-version_2.0.106-UI-REFRESH-signed.apk

Millionaire: glu_zte_blade_wwtbam5_de_en_es_fr_it_1_0_1_full-wrapped.apk

Spanish settings: SpanishPack.apk

Home Screen selector: OHSS_800x480_Blade_A1.00.01_signed.apk

Orange App Shop: OAS_ZTE_Blade-v4_2_1_19-20100526-1-prod.apk

I did it using ADB in Windows and connecting the phone to my PC:

1) Download and install the Android SDK. (You'll do this anyway for the USB drivers)

2) Go to a command prompt

3) Navigate to the TOOLS folder in the Android SDK install

4) Type ADB REMOUNT (Enables write access to the phone)

5) Type ADB SHELL (You'll now be in a Linux shell on your phone)

6) Type SU (to give root access)

7) Type CD system

8) Type CD app

9) Type LS (this will give you a listing of all apps installed)

9) Type RM <filename_of_app_you_want_to_remove.apk>

10) Type REBOOT

I'll add this to the WIKI. Perhaps the mods and solution writers could sticky the WIKI and put our work (or at least a link) in there. I fear this forum is becoming swamped with posts.

It's much easier to remove apps using Titanium backup and you dont even need to reboot.

Perhaps, worth adding the alternative option in the wiki as well?

Thanks for all the help guys, can't believe how easy it was (with the right direction from here). Phone is now debranded and daughter is very happy indeed.

Maybe there should be a stickied noob thread and/or guide for asking these types of questions so they don't clutter the rest of the forum?
