Light sensor for Froyo

Has anyone had any joy getting the sensor to function and hence the 3 buttons to light up under Froyo..am using 2.2 as my daily ROM and this is the only major issue that still impacts my use of the phone, day-to-day..would like it to function as per 2.1 but am happy to wait for a more complete froyo release, save for the light sensor issue.
