Stuck with Froyo 2.2 can't roll back to 2.1 stock

Hello,

I have been trying to help my brother out with his Dell Streak and now I am stuck and unsure how to fix it.

It started when he wanted me to make a small hack to enable mounting of usb drives on the device.

He had told me the Dell was already rooted and just a few changes to the config were required.

After trying to make the config changes I was getting permission issues, after some toying around I decided the device cannot have been rooted, so we decided to apply the new ROM superboot r2-4399-6601-streak-superboot.zip by issuing the install-superboot-linux.sh command. (I'm using ubuntu)

The Dell then refused to do anything other than display the DELL logo indefinitely.

After some reading it seem the best thing was to install the OS again.

We decided on using the froyo 2.2 as it was available.

I installed the 2.5.0.1-streak-clockworkrecovery.zip ROM using the install-recovery-linux.sh

next was to download and install the froyo 2.2 OS which was named update-new-v2.zip from the SD card.

This worked and we had 2.2 on the device, unfortunately it was buggy, and the camera + a few other things did not work properly inc battery life as well.

The next thing to try was roll back the OS to a previous version.

I managed to flash the recovery.stock.img on to the DELL and it booted 2.2 still no issues.

I then used the update-6941-21.pkg (2.1 stock) however after selecting it from the SD card menu screen went black, nothing for over 20 mins. Rebooted it and froyo 2.2 booted.

Then I used OS 1.6 Streak_104_4399_21.pkg again same as above nothing just a black screen.

Rebooted and again 2.2 booted.

What do I need to do to get the Dell back on to 2.1 again?

What should I see after selecting the pkg any thing on screen or is it always black?

Much thanks in advance it's really annoying me I can't work it out.

Downgrade from Stephen Hyde's 2.2 to O2 2.1 (build 8105)

1. Download the O2 2.1 (build 8105) file in this post.

2. Rename the file to Update.pkg and copy it to the root of your SD Card.

3. Download this zip file which contains a recovery for downgrading here.

4. Move the recovery.img file to wherever your fastboot.exe is.

5. Put your Streak into fastboot mode.

6. Open up command line type: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.stock.new.img

7. Hold down both the volume buttons and type: fastboot -i 0x413c reboot in command line.

8. In recovery select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. Be patient it will take a while.

9. The Streak will reboot and you are now on O2 2.1 (build 8105).

That's what I did pretty much what I did. just the build number is different.

Will it print something on the screen or just sit there with a black screen again?

You can try doing a Factory reset that might do it but it looks like you are not doing it correctly

Did a factory reset that just put froyo 2.2 back to its default state

When you got to this step:

8. In recovery select Software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD Card using volume keys and camera button to select. Be patient it will take a while.

Did it pick up the Update.pkg successfully and load the ROM? If so, try dloading the other versions of 2.1. Should be here: http://android.modaco.com/category/436/del...eak-modaco-com/

I waited for at least 30 mins first time and maybe 15 the second attempt.

I think the file was picked up with no issues.

It was named "Update.pkg" with a capital U. no error message came up though, just a black screen I could still see the backlight was on so it had not switched off. If the phone was turned off half way through an OS update would it still load the previous OS that was on the device or would it become afiled install and a non booting os?

Hi have just tried a Downgrade to 2.1 from 1.2.0 and although I have done this before

I hit a problem I copied the update.pkg (8105) onto the Streak and in the cmd mode ran recovery.stock.new.img

but it would not go into Clockwork after choosing no.2 install from SD Card but got a screen saying Andriod recovery etc.

at first I pick not to do a recovey but it just booted up into 1.2.0 again so I did it again and pick Recovery and after a while it boot up in

2.1 !!..and all working OK ...it's nice to see the 02 screen again

So it looks like all you need to do to downgrade from 1.2.0 (2.2) to 2.1 is put

the update.pkg (8105) on the sd card and press up/down keys and power and then select no.2 update from sd card

and then select Android Recovery mode and that's it. but don't blame me if it does not work

Thanks Sukicat your advice worked a treat and everything is back the way it should, inc its now rooted

For anyone else who may have a similar issue getting back to 2.1 from froyo 2.2 this is what worked for me using the above procedure from sukicat:

Download the following files:

recovery.stock.new.img

http://www.mediafire.com/?9n8c2532o5kzgeq

Flash the ROM on to your dell streak use the path to your downloaded recovery.stock.new.img as follows:

(Ubuntu) fastboot-linux is part of the superboot.zip utils (not sure of the link but its on this site somewhere)

# ./fastboot-linux -i 0x413c flash recovery ~/Downloads/Android-Dell_Streak/recovery-rom/recovery.stock.new.img

sending 'recovery' (3018 KB)... OKAY

writing 'recovery'... OKAY

When this complete I just undocked the dell streak and removed the battery with out powering it off first.

Next is to load the new update-8105-21.pkg on to the SDCARD:

Copy it to the SDCARD and rename to "Update.pkg" (Capital U)

Put the card in your dell add the battery, power on whilst holding down the up and down volume as above.

Once the recovery ROM loads choose option 2:

It will now ask you to confirm you wish to do this as it will wipe the data etc. Agree to this.

The next screen shows a progress bar as the new OS is installed.

After this progress bar another one show and mentions it is configuring or wiping old data (can't recall it's exact wording)

It will now perform a reboot and the DELL logo should appear, 2-3 mins later you will see the O2 splash screen and everything is back to factory defaults

This above worked for me I can not say it will work for you so am taking no responsabilty for bricks.

The main difference with this procedure for me was the progress bar wile loading the os, before these versions of files I was getting a black screen only, make sure you choose the build versions that worked for me and not the older ones.

Thanks everyone.

This kind of worked for me - Only my problem is (and always has been !) that I am "freeze up" whe it comes to all this command prompt and Fastboot stuff - I simply mess it up and never see where I am going wrong (yeah I know , I can see you all rolling your eyes !) - I am very much a GUI type of guy.

So rather than entering all the fastboot prompts , I simply took the folder that I donloaded from here to install the stock recovery ( the one where you simply click the "install-recovery-windows.bat" to install ) and placed the modded recovery image in there , renamed it "recovery.img" ....and installed it as normal

I suspect most of you are reading this thinking "Well ,duh , of course that would work" , but I haven't seen this suggested anywhere , and for me , it made the difference between what I was and wasn't happy to try.

So thats me back to 1.6 , now where's that Froyo update

Good result and if it helps someone else then, who cares how you did it, just that you did and shared it
