Guest Cypher_Aod Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 been running R4 since it came out and since i installed it my GPS hasn't been functioning properly. I downgraded to 2.1R4 after trying out the 2.2 Alphabuild, but a friend of mine went straight to 2.1R4 from stock. he's having no problems connecting to satellites but no matter how many he connects to, he can't get a Fix. the problem i'm having is that in addition to not being able to get a Fix, the GPS only sees 5 satellites max, often only four and sometimes less, despite being in open ground with a cloudless sky. is this a known problem, and are there any suggestions for a fix?
Guest Sebastian404 Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Maybe I'm missing something, how do you know how many satellites your connected to? The GPS location seems to work fine for me, or at least latitude did, tho it did go through a very odd phase of thinking I was in Spain when I was Ireland the other week.

Guest vulpy Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 very very good application called GPS Status. You have a bad GPS part most probably, don't wait and go change it... I changed 4 San Francisco phones so far and I can tell RF performances vary largely from 1 phone to another... 2 out of 4 had exceptional GPS reception, but 2 were really not great.... I'm not mentioning other stuff around the wifi and bth, ZTE has a very low quality threshold when screening parts... it is at £110 for a reason  GPS Status rocks btw, fully agree!
Guest buneech Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 GPS works great for me on modaco r4. I also edited gps_ouk.conf, set ntp server to si.pool.ntp.org, because i live in slovenia, and also changed the supl server from orange to google.
Guest ezablade Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 (edited) running R4, can see 11 satellites, indoors. edit.. pic right way up! Edited November 13, 2010 by ezablade
Guest Sebastian404 Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 I tried the app, it works quite well for me too. People tell me that the AGPS driver from the new ROM is better than the stock one... so I've made a quick and dirty update, you might want to try it.. grab http://www.podtwo.com/android/beta/r6_upda...lade_signed.zip from: http://www.podtwo.com/android/beta/ And flash it with clockwork recovery, no need to wipe your rom or anything, it should work with the Modaco ROM... but make sure you make a back up before you start... just incase..
Guest Stryke69 Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 No GPS problem for me with Modaco r4 ROM...
Guest Cypher_Aod Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 for those suggesting that it's a hardware failure, it was working fine when i briefly tested it on stock. my friend says that he tried his this morning and managed to get a good fix after 30 seconds, and suspects that his AGPS cache was borked.

And some peeps in Ireland think they are in Britain  Bit worried about this tho, GPS is one of the main features which makes me want this device, and if I buy this online - no return mechanism  Wish Irelan WAS in Britain :'( Edited November 14, 2010 by shadowninty
