Guest jamborino Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 (edited) I got fed up waiting for T-Mobile to re-issue the official 2.1 update for the Pulse, so I decided to upgrade my wife's Pulse with the earlier official UK release, following the steps set out on this board. Well, it couldn't have gone more wrong! I got the 'Update Failed' message, with the front buttons flashing but no buttons actually responding to any presses (including the side buttons). So I disconnected and reconnected the battery, powered up the phone, got a few seconds of a garbled screen, followed by the following blue screen message: "USB FastBoot: V0.5 Machine ID: 1007000 v0 Build Date: Jun 30 2010, 23:25:17 MSM Id: 16 MSM Version: 2.0 Modem Build Id: 76XXC-6383-SDCBALYM Serial Number: UNKNOWN ptn 0 name='boot' start=304 len=20 ptn 1 name='system' start=324 len=800 ptn 2 name='userdata' start=1124 len=722 ptn 3 name='cache' start=1846 len=160 ptn 4 name='recovery' start=2006 len=38 ptn 5 name='misc' start=2044 len=4 CANNOT READ RAMDISK IMAGE" I've tried reinstalling both 1.5 and 2.1, but still get no further than the same blue screen message. I'm not a techie so I don't know how to solve this - can anyone help please? Many thanks Edited November 13, 2010 by jamborino
Guest Richard_Arkless Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 How did you update, through settings, storage, update or power off and and when you turn it on at the same time hold back and volume up You should in theory be able to use the 2nd method and update through there

I followed the steps on this forum, i.e, POWER + RED (End Call) + VOLUME UP. Unfortunately what should have happened 'in theory' hasn't actually happened in practice!!
Guest Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Was/are there several dload-folders on the SD-card?
Guest jamborino Posted November 13, 2010 Report Posted November 13, 2010 Was/are there several dload-folders on the SD-card? No, only one dload folder at a time. For example, when I tried to downgrade back to 1.5 I made sure I removed the earlier 2.1 dload folder and that the SD card contained only the 1.5 dload folder.

I had a similar problem when I installed the official 2.1 update (when it was available on the t-mobile site) I followed the procedure exactly, but the phone locked-up with the buttons flashing. I removed the battery and then it kept attempting to update but failed after a few seconds. I removed the sd card, put it in a reader then re-formatted it and copied the update back to it. That fixed my problem. It may have been a file on the card was corrupted or perhaps some other file that should, not have been there.

My wife's phone is now back to how it was before attempting the 2.1 update, and I think I'll wait until TMob re-issue the official 2.1 update (if that ever happens!) before trying again. Thanks again to you and the other responders for taking the trouble to try to help me out, much appreciated.
