Guest parithosh93 Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 A few weeks back i updated my google maps and since then my gps hasn't been able to locate me. Google maps opens and although i see the gps sign next to the wifi symbol on the notification bar it says unable to locate position. Iv been trying it from the same location in which it used to work before. I tried uninstalling the updates and using the stock google maps and im still getting the same error. I am running acer's android 2.1, no custom roms or anything. Btw my phone is rooted, but it used to work even after my root until a few weeks back.
Guest Rufy93 Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Root should have nothing to do with it. Have you tried the application "GPS Status"? http://www.appbrain.com/app/gps-status-too...psim.gpsstatus2 Try running this with a internet connection.

Guest pechenie Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 Yep, same problem here. Problem occured after I flashed to one of the 2.2 leak, just reflashed to latest in hope of GPS fixing, but there is no result. Gps status didn't help also...
Guest B4rt Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 ideas, anybody? Did you ever install a Sense rom? that somehow cause the gps to stop working. You can try and flash the Sense rom again and it should fix it.

Is there any possibilities to check GPS chip logs or something? Blinking gps icon appears when I try to use gps apps, but phone can't find any sattelites. Edited December 5, 2010 by pechenie
Guest parithosh93 Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 i just uninstalled the update fr google maps and it started working fine. I reinstalled the update now,its working properly now.

Guest pechenie Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Also, after reboot on device start I got this: E/acer_AgpsSetting( 120): Acer A-GPS Settings Interface init! Guest pechenie Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 Reflashed to 2.1 from official .exe installer... Absolutely the same output from logcat, is it definitely hw trouble? Damn I don't want to wait for ~45 days again...
Guest pechenie Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 additional info: i've set debug level in gps.conf to 5 (verbose) and got this output: D/libloc ( 123): Event RPC_LOC_EVENT_PARSED_POSITION_REPORT (client 0) D/libloc ( 123): Session status: RPC_LOC_SESS_STATUS_IN_PROGESS Valid mask: 0xF1E9 D/libloc ( 123): Latitude: 54.7367835 (intermediate) D/libloc ( 123): Longitude: 55.9604287 D/libloc ( 123): Accuracy: 1772.0000000 V/libloc ( 123): loc_eng_report_position: ignore position report when session status = 1 D/libloc ( 123): D/libloc ( 123): Event RPC_LOC_EVENT_SATELLITE_REPORT (client 0) D/libloc ( 123): sv count: 0 D/libloc ( 123): D/libloc ( 123): Event RPC_LOC_EVENT_PARSED_POSITION_REPORT (client 0) D/libloc ( 123): Session status: RPC_LOC_SESS_STATUS_IN_PROGESS Valid mask: 0xF1E9 D/libloc ( 123): Latitude: 54.7367835 (intermediate) D/libloc ( 123): Longitude: 55.9604287 D/libloc ( 123): Accuracy: 1789.0000000 V/libloc ( 123): loc_eng_report_position: ignore position report when session status = 1 D/libloc ( 123): D/libloc ( 123): Event RPC_LOC_EVENT_SATELLITE_REPORT (client 0) D/libloc ( 123): sv count: 0 and so on. Latitude and longitude remains absolutely the same, but Accuracy always changing (grows a little bit). Is there any ideas? I got maximum from the logs, hope someone give me advice... Is there any chance to "wipe gps data" or something?
Guest pechenie Posted December 7, 2010 Report Posted December 7, 2010 yep, I got it: new extremely cool ui themes and awesome brilliant "new" roms is much more interesting than annoying unknown little problem... thanks anyway.
Guest raulicio Posted December 8, 2010 Report Posted December 8, 2010 yep, I got it: new extremely cool ui themes and awesome brilliant "new" roms is much more interesting than annoying unknown little problem... thanks anyway. I have almost the same problem, but i dont know how to check the log thingy. So when i turn on the gps, nothing happens. no small icon, on the notification bar, gps program looking for satellites forever. I've noticed this problem a few days ago, on custom 2.2 roms. before i've used it successfully on 2.1 roms... How can i check the log thing? Is there anything i can try? i dont want to loose my phone at least for 2 months!:_(

Guest pechenie Posted December 11, 2010 Report Posted December 11, 2010 With a clean official 2.1 update, the same. It seems the gps has been turned on, every program sais the gps is on but nothing happens.the chip does nothing. Even no blinking gps icon on the notification bar. But I do have blinking icon. So to check the logs you should install adb (get it from official SDK - http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html ), connect your device to computer, run adb devices to check if your phone correctly recognized. You will see the list of connected android devices (actually, you should see one only list item with leading big numeric value like 0903941283). Ok than you should run: adb logcat libloc:V *:S So you will see debug output for your gps activity. It maybe incomplete, so you should enable higher log output for you GPS system, to do it change the value of LOG_LEVEL=3 to LOG_LEVEL=5 (sorry, can't exactly remember the option name, but you will recognize it when you see it) in /etc/gps.conf with RootExplorer or something. Than reboot your device and run logcat again to see more detailed input. P.S.: if you need further instructions let me know P.P.S.: oops I dunno if you using *nix, so if you are under Windows I guess you should replace "adb" with "adb.exe" in the code above.

I've tried everything. full wipe, official 2.1, plain leak 2.2, other custom roms without success in strating up the gps chip. Now as a last try i flashed the mytouch 4G rom again, and the gps started working. Cheers!!! But the problem, i DON NOT WANT to use this rom! It's obvious now, that the sense rom was the cause, but how can i fix it? Installing any other rom than myT4G, occurs gps failure... Edited December 20, 2010 by raulicio

Guest tomiguel Posted December 22, 2010 Report Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) I have the same problem, gps in froyo roms does't work. If I change back to 2.1 it works fine. Any idea how to fix it. Maybe there is a way to replace 2.2 drivers with the ones from 2.1? Edited March 24, 2011 by tomiguel
