Guest ok-face Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Hi, First post as I'm just a lurker. Had my San Fran for about a month now, haven't flashed etc., just unlocked and using a Vodafone contract sim. I've searched the forum and had a quick google but haven't found any solutions. The last week or two I've had a problem with calls, both when making calls and receiving them, in that I can hear the other person, but they can't hear me. (Also another seemingly unrelated question that I haven't searched but I thought I'd add is that the phone just restarts itself randomly, probably about once a day. Seems to be when I'm using multiple apps and it gets over-excited) Anyway its the calling problem that I need solved, so any help is much appreciated, thanks
Guest kang.t7 Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Yeah had the exact same problem with the Modacco r4 Rom. Just Flashed again over the top without a WIPE. Fixed it
Guest yeawhatever Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Yeah had the exact same problem with the Modacco r4 Rom. Just Flashed again over the top without a WIPE. Fixed it misses was complaining about this but I thought she was being special. may have to reflash hers. Doh
Guest ok-face Posted November 14, 2010 Report Posted November 14, 2010 Yeah had the exact same problem with the Modacco r4 Rom. Just Flashed again over the top without a WIPE. Fixed it I'm not actually using any Roms etc. (Don't have a clue about most of the terminology, despite trying to learn, I decided to play it safe and avoid a cock up). As I said, mine's just straight out of the box and unlocked. Any ideas?

I have mine flashed R4, and I get a fuzzy sound when speaking on phone (hard to describe) sounds like background noise. anyone have this issue? Matt.

Guest ok-face Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 Bumping for a solution? Tried recording sound, it was just white noise/background noise. That must mean its something wrong with the speaker itself?
Guest rocksalt Posted November 20, 2010 Report Posted November 20, 2010 Had the same problem, it might be because the sim that came with the phone was never activated (even if you're not going to be using that sim with your phone - I'll be on T-Mobile - you will still have to activate it). There was some sort of problem with porting my old number (they tried several phones when I first bought it and gave me another payg sim last week and it still didn't work) which meant the sim was never activated. I just activated the sim today myself over the phone (gave up trying to get the number ported) and now I can use voice recorder as well as actually talk to people on the phone!
Guest markusj Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 Maybe your microphone is dead (based on the recorded white noise). I'm quite sure that the SIM has nothing to do with this.
Guest rocksalt Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 I got white noise (or more like garbled / scrambled sounds) as well when I tried sound recorder or calling someone else. Interestingly the headset worked fine. I thought it could only be a hardware issue as well...

My phone is fine on bluetooth and during normal use (on the ear) but on speakerphone there seems to be a mic problem. I'm wondering if its a software bug as the mic and speaker work during normal use / listening to music.

Based on that, I'm more than sure that your microphone died B) Take it back to Orange/T-mobile/etc. If your warranty is still void (or they won't check the software), it takes only 2 minutes them to change it. Maybe the program that filters the voice while on speakerphone (You know, it extracts the speakerphone's sound from the microphone's sound, so the person on the other end of the line won't hear themselves.) is faulty. I'd try reflashing it. Which ROM do you use?

Guest Mr_Orange Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 Got the same issue on Modaco R2 and R4. I might try a froyo rom and see if it makes a difference for me.
Guest Geoff2 Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 I've had my San Francisco for 2 days. On the first day it was working fine. Earlier today, I attempted to make a phone call, but the other person couldn't hear me at all. I made a few more calls, and used the Sound Recorder app. to test this and I found that the phone was not registering my voice. I suspect this means that the microphone has stopped working. I contacted Orange, and they have asked me to phone back during office hours to arrange a repair or replacement. Thankfully, I have not yet modded the phone - all I have done is unlock it and I was able to re-lock it just now. I haven't used the phone much, and it has had no knocks. I am therefore wondering if the problem is a software rather than a hardware issue. Has anyone else had a problem with their phone microphone? If so, what was the cause of it?
Guest Kthulhu Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 I've had my San Francisco for 2 days. .. You should get a new phone straight away - do not accept a repair. ask for new phone. ..all I have done is unlock it and I was able to re-lock it just now. How did you re-lock the phone?
Guest Geoff2 Posted January 9, 2011 Report Posted January 9, 2011 You should get a new phone straight away - do not accept a repair. ask for new phone. How did you re-lock the phone? Yep, they gave me a new phone - delivered the following day. I relocked the phone using Arr Too's BladeUnlock.apk. (Which is also what I used to unlock it in the first place - it's a lovely user-friendly piece of software.)
Guest vNa5h Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 same issue .... microphone is the culprit
