HTC Desire HD rooting and removal of daft apps

Hello there, I searched on the forum to see if anyone was doing what i am attempting on their HTC Desire HD but unfortunately i came up short.

I started off trying to find out how i could get rid of certain applications that i will never use that run themselves in the background when i looked in advanced task killer. The HTC battery isn't amazing so if i get rid of programs running in the background, i will save more energy?

Anyways i found this tutorial to get rid of one of the apps i would be rid off, the program "stocks":

I don't know if this is right but i figured Android phones must all generally work the same way.

Finding VISIONary was much harder than i expected but i found a copy eventually. But i have a few questions:

1. How long should VISIONary take once activated to root your device?

2. Are there multiple versions of VISIONary that are designed for difference handsets/manufacturing brands?

My device had VISIONary running for quite some time and i got bored. So i went back to my home screen to check some emails but wanted to check up on the progress of the rooting:

3. When i pressed the home button, did i stop the application from doing it's thing? (task killer seems to think it is still going)

4. I know there are chances taken when doing this kind of thing. What is the chance of someone like myself bricking their phone?

Just in case anyone is interested, the programs i am looking to get rid of so far, because they came stock on my phone and there isn't a regular option for uninstall are:

peep

stocks

amazon mp3

news and weather

news

news widget

any other suggestions would be great to help stream line my device.

greatly look forward to some feedback,

Ian
