Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Hello all Bought my ZTE blade at the weekend. Followed Pauls advice in his thread for putting on the modaco rom. Installed clockword mod, put the rom on, alls working fine. However I've run the internal storage to the nub and need to take advantage of the apps2sd. So I baked a new rom with that in. Applied it. And went into clockwork recovery. I asked it to partition the SDCard to 256mb and it errored saying it couldnt and that a log would be saved in /tmp. So I formatted the card incase that was the issue and tried again. No joy. Same error with it claiming a log was being saved in /tmp. However no logs appearing in /tmp on the sd card. Anyone able to assist? would love to get this working so I can install the final lot of apps. Thanks
Guest goatee Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 I couldn't get Clockwork to partition my card, but ROM Manager did succeed. Unless you have a tiny card, I'd go for 512MB - even 256MB can fill up . As an alternative to ROM Manager, download minitool Partition Wizard (free Windows tool) and use that. Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Thanks so much for that. I'll do that now. Once thats setup how do I move apps to the partition?
Guest Gibbo501 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 I thought it was common knowledge that the formatting tools in Clockworkmod didn't work. Partition your SD card FIRST, the partitioning tools within the ClockworkMod recovery are currently BROKEN. Backup whatever data you wish to keep from the card. Use your Linux distro (OR GParted Live) to partition your SD card. First partition MUST be FAT32, size will usually be the size of your SD card LESS the size of your EXT2 Last partition MUST be EXT2, size will be what you decide is best. I personally use 512MB Both partitions MUST be primary partitions. DO NOT FORMAT THE EXT PARTITION TO ANYTHING OTHER THAN EXT2. THE ZTE BLADE KERNEL DOES NOT SUPPORT EXT3 OR 4 From: http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/showthre...r-the-ZTE-Blade
Guest goatee Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Thanks so much for that. I'll do that now. Once thats setup how do I move apps to the partition? Just reboot, and it will all happen automagically. You can download Quick System Info which will show you your phone / A2SD usage.
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Never rooted/rom'd any of my phones before so wasnt common for me but thanks for the instructions guys thats brilliant. I'll do it this lunch time.
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 ah knackers. OK so I used the windows partition tool. I created a 512 ext2 partition and resized the fat32. Hit apply. it did its bits. phone rebooted but wouldnt go past the modaco man. So I went into clockwork and mounted the USB through that. the disk is now showing as the size of the fat32 partition and the ext2 partition isnt showing at all. Any ideas?

Firstly, don't panic - it can take a while to copy everything over. Just to double check, did you download / bake a ROM with A2SD support in? Otherwise, reflash your ROM over the top, and it should all work fine. What are you using to check the existence of ext2 partition? Windows disk manager should see it as a partition that it doesn't understand. Alternatively, Partition Wizard should show it correctly as ext2. Finally, it also has to be a primary partition. Why is it though the ext2 partition isnt showing in the partition manager?
Guest goatee Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Yep on the A2SD. Will reflash just in case. Why is it though the ext2 partition isnt showing in the partition manager? That's strange - it should show. Try re-partitioning, or using ROM Manager to do the partitioning?
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 that'll be tricky if it wont boot  I guess if it doesnt go in I'll reflash it with the default without ap2sd
Guest goatee Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 (edited) that'll be tricky if it wont boot  I guess if it doesnt go in I'll reflash it with the default without ap2sd lol, fair point . The final thing you can try is to download gparted and use that for the partitioning. Unfortunately, my USB sticks have irritating first partitions (of 2MB!) with encryption software on, which I don't seem to be able to get rid of, and I can't boot off the second partition, so that wasn't an option for me, as my CDRW wasn't working. Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 will gparted run on a windows machine?
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 nevermind found the instructions. thanks. fingers crossed this will sort it.
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Ok officially starting to panic. Cant apply any update.zip. I try and I get: E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1 (or /dev/block/mmcblk0) (invalid argument) E:Can't mount SDCARD:update.zip Installation aborted. So I cant boot in to try rom manager I cant get gparted to boot from the USB sticks we have here. umm help! is it worth doing a factory reset?
Guest goatee Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 nevermind found the instructions. thanks. fingers crossed this will sort it. Good luck - the alternative, is to install the FLB Froyo ROM. The only issues are 1. Dialer seems to use "above average" battery. 2. Coarse network based location doesn't work. 3. Auto brightness doesn't work. Other than that, it's fast, and in conjunction with "App 2 SD" makes it easy to move all the apps over to SD which support it. And the advantage with the way Froyo implements it, is that they're stored in the FAT32 partition, so no partitioning, and you get to use the whole card how you want.
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 starting to wish I'd just used FLB. see above post  cant get anything to work.
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 OK tried using gpart boot disk but it wouldnt pick it up. downloaded several partitioning tools including acronis and all of them will only pick up the fat32 partition. its like the ext2 partition doesnt exist. im completely stumped.

That's really odd. So when it looks at your SD card, does it see anything other than the FAT32 partition? It sounds like Partition Wizard didn't complete creating the ext2 partition, and the partition table has become corrupted.
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 thats correct all it can see is the fat32. Is there a way to reset the partition table or is the SDcard basically junk now?

Try http://www.partitionwizard.com/help/partition-recovery.html ? I'm sorry for suggesting the software in the first place
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Not your fault it didnt work right  I'll run that now thanks. Fingers crossed. Worst comes to worst I presume a new SDcard will fix this?
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 It found absolutely nothing /facepalm so new SD? or is there some way of erasing the partition table?
Guest goatee Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 It found absolutely nothing /facepalm so new SD? or is there some way of erasing the partition table? bum - there must be a way of fixing it - How about this from - http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums...b6-7ac920862492 1. Open Computer by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Computer. 2. Right-click the drive that you want to check, and then click Properties. 3. Click the Tools tab, and then, under Error-checking, click Check now. If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. · To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select Automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will report problems but not fix them. · To perform a thorough check, select Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. This scan attempts to find and repair physical errors on the drive itself, and it can take much longer to complete. · To check for both file errors and physical errors, select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.
Guest Rhysd2 Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 nope didnt work either  thanks for all the help so far by the way. Appreciate it alot. Downloading paragon now as I hear it has the ability to delete partition tables.
