Guest EMMJAY Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 Now I have seen an article just now showing android running on iOS devices. But, my question is can we run iOS on android handsets, the Blade in articular. -- Bince
Guest Frankish Posted November 16, 2010 Report Posted November 16, 2010 No. Android is Open Source meaning a lot easier to port. iOS is closed source so we don't stand a chance of having it.

Guest monkeyfeatures Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 Android can be made to run on an iPhone because the source code is available, so hackers can modify it to handle the iPhone hardware. Apple on the other hand guard their source code like their business depends on it (and it kinda does).
Guest Hofy Posted November 17, 2010 Report Posted November 17, 2010 Why on Earth do you want an I(suck)Os when you can have 2.2 android ? B)
Guest Xoplit Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 Do you think it will be possible to have WM 7 on the blade? It is closed again, however it is far more likely from ZTE to make WM7 phones. Then it should be easier to prepare an image for the Blade. But the CPU might be the culprit here, as all the WM7 phones that are announced by now are with 1GHz processor.

I'm sure both are possisble (I've seen a Youtube video of IOS on other android handsets) Similarly youtube has an iPhone running android People like to do these things to prove the principle that it can be done, hacking an OS and shoehorning it somewhere it really oughtn't to be I remember many many years back being terribly excited to see a hacked mac os running on my Amiga 500! (though obviously it couldn't do much maccy stuff) I never used it for anything, but it was quite cool to see There's a very active Hackintosh community at the mo, running recent Mac OSes on netbooks of all things! Also there were lots of PC emulators for the Amiga - all clunky and rather less good at being PCs than a contemporary 286 would have been Thing is, as people have posted, your phone is much better at running Android, just as you probably know your way around the Android UI better, so it's probably best that Android phones and users stick to what they know (same goes for Iphones and their users and WM7 too)
Guest DB_Runner Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 What about MeeGo ? What are the odds on a rom for the Blade ?
Guest Jon_V Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 What about MeeGo ? What are the odds on a rom for the Blade ? 6/1 with Ladbrokes.
Guest mELIANTE Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 6/1 with Ladbrokes. I'll take it for a fiver! B)

As I understand it the specs for WP7 are quite high and quite specific, so I don't think any official vendor will ever compile a build that will run on the Blade's CPU. I guess it's not entirely impossible that someone might hack it, it is still ARM architecture and there are some smart people out there, but even if they did I imagine it would be another one of those half-baked things where the touch screen doesn't work, you can't make any calls and its so slow you could make a cup of tea while you are waiting for the menu to load. Even a 100% successful port would be laggy with only 600mhz to play with instead of 1ghz+. I think it's safe to say we shouldn't hold our breath for a useable port of any other OS, although I'd love to be proved wrong B)
Guest Hopelessness Posted November 18, 2010 Report Posted November 18, 2010 Any reason why you couldn't make Ubuntu run natively? You can run it under CHROOT in Android, but I'm still yet to see a full Ubuntu ROM for any Android phone. I can see many uses for it on this device, maybe as a low power web server, or several embedded applications...
