Help - restoring an HTC Desire

Hi guys and girls,

Not normally here (a lowly ZTE Blade Owner myself) but I have been 'trying' to help the missus with her Desire.

It was not running as well as it had done so I suggested a reset. Rather than root the phone and perform an Nandroid backup I just used the onlboard backup to SD card route followed by a factory reset...

The phone now won't recorgnize the backup on the SD Card, in fact, when rebooted from the reset there is never an option to restore the back up on the SD card. I did manage to install AppBrain as a secondary backup to remember at least her Market downloads, but for some reason when you sync that it seems to think its a new phone (logged in with the same gmail account)...

Anyone got any ideas, had a search and made sure the backup is on the SD card (it is) and apart from that, I am stumped...

I know, should have rooted it but that is all in hind sight - which as we all know is 20/20!!!
