I have the LG GT540 (Optimus) and notice you can change the home screen wall paper, can you change the lock screen wall paper (running version 1.6), or would (version 2.1 give you this option)?

as you mentioned, in 1.6 you can change both. In 2.1 using the default tools you can NOT change the lock screen but CAN change the home wallpaper using the same method as in 1.6.

I wouldn't doubt if there are other means to by pass changing the lock screen, but undoubtedly you'd need to root the phone...and you would also need an app or custom rom capable of doing that (which I personally dont know of).
