Confused about how A2SD works!

Hi all,

I've had a good hunt around and don't seem to be able to find the answers to this one!

So..

I've got Paul's r9 Desire rom, with A2SD, and have also partitioned my SD card using Rom Manager with a .5gb partition.

I've used "Quick System Info" and can see that about 100mb of the A2SD/etc3 partition on my SD card has been used. This is what's confusing me!

After I last reflashed, I restored all my apps with Titanium Backup, as far as I could tell it stuck them all in the normal place - on the phone/or the SD card after I pushed "move to sd card" in the app manager. Internal storage shows as having about 20mb free (What i'd expect if A2SD wasn't working!)

So how does A2SD work? When do apps get installed there? How do I even choose that apps get installed there, and what on earth is using the 100mb on my A2SD partition? Am I actually able to install another 500mb of apps by using A2SD and having a 500mb A2SD partition on my SD card?

Thanks, and sorry for all the noob questions!

Dave

This is something that has been confusing me as well. I believe that you should NOT choose to manually move apps to SD-card. If you do this, you just use the (worse) stock froyo apps to sd, meaning they will be unavailable when SD-card is mounted. I believe that all apps you install, will automatically be put on your SD-card. You do not need to manually move anything.

I noticed that my phone storage got lower after installing apps. I believe this happened when I updated data/system apps that came with the ROM I installed.

The thing I'm wondering is, how do you know how much SD-card space you have left on your application partition?

A2SD and A2SD+ (only difference being that with + you move Dalvik cache as well) works in that when you install a program some core system files or configs or whatever has to be installed on internal memory theres no way around that, but it´s not very much and the main application will be installed on the SD card´s ext partition. You don´t have to do anything just have a correctly partitioned SD card and a rom with A2SD or A2SD+ you can see the effect of the partition using some apps that I can´t recall atm from the market but other than that, you will just see your internal memory on the phone going down at a slower rate than before. You do not have to, nor want to manually move apps using the Froyo A2SD just let that one be. A2SD and A2SD+ in a sense just expands your internal memory seemlessly using your ext3 partition.
