Guest That-Guy Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 Trying to manage contacts on an Android seems like hard work. I exported contacts to SD Card (21 Contacts) then installed a new ROM and imported them back. After importing them back it had also imported all my Facebook and/or Twitter contacts (over 1000). I went through and deleted them all just leaving my normal phone contacts but now the contacts I have left are in the Google contacts category under "System Group: My Contacts" how can I move them back so they are just normal phone contacts? Hope that makes sense.
Guest Flumpster Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 Easiest way I have found is to go to Gmail (googlemail) on your computer and under contacts set them all up there.. It syncs them to the phone instantly, seriously, as I hit enter on the name part and go to enter the phone number the contact has already appeared on the phone. You can also add your photos for the contact here which is very easy and any time you wipe your phone you don't have to worry about re-entering them because they all sync straight back as soon as you enter your gmail account on phone setup.
Guest That-Guy Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 Only downside to that is I don't want to share contacts between services, I have already disabled this in the Twitter and Facebook apps. I guess the only way to fix this is to remove the contacts and re-enter them manually into the phone.

Guest StevenHarperUK Posted November 21, 2010 Report Posted November 21, 2010 (edited) Importing into Google Recently I had to migrate all my contacts from a Windows Phone - onto Android I Did this by putting all the contacts into Google Stage 1 - Export into a File For windows the best thing to use is PIM Backup http://www.dotfred.net/ It puts all you contacts into 1 csv file (in anotherformat), just make sure you go into the options and turn off Binary and compression. Stage 2 - Import into google Make a new file with a .csv extension. Copy the first line from below, then simply add all the contacts you need into the format of the 2nd line Most Spreadsheet programs will let you open the CSV and edit it. Then just import the file into Google Contacts (selecting a group when you do it) - I suggest a new group. Given Name,Family Name,Nickname,E-mail 1 - Type,E-mail 1 - Value,Phone 1 - Type,Phone 1 - Value,Phone 2 - Type,Phone 2 - Value,Phone 3 - Type,Phone 3 - Value Steven,Harper,Steven Harper,* ,,Home,010000000,Mobile,+44799999999,Work,010000000
Google dont tell you anywhere what the Magic format is of their CSV - it took me a while to work it out. Guest .loop. Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 Maybe an easier way to sync from a Windows Mobile phone to Google and Android is to set up your Active Sync on your phone to use Google: (Server address: m.google.com, user and password: your Google login). Then choose what you want to sync in your Active Sync (Contacts, Email, Calendar) and sync it. Then use your Android phone to sync your data and voilĂ you have all your data on your Android phone without hassling with exporting and importing files. Hope this helps
