Better 3G+ performance selecting WCDMA mode Vs. GSM/WCDMA auto

Hi guys,

Just wanted to check with others - but if I select the network type as "GSM/WCDMA auto" and the icon in the notification tray says "3G+" if I run a speedtest.net test I get an download speed ~512kbps. But if I select "WCDMA only" and have the "3G+" icon present, I get download speeds of ~2000kbps.

Ive tried this a few times - and get the same results. Does this happen to others?

Just wondering if this

a T-mobile network issue

a phone issue

an Android issue

Coverage bars are at full on both occasions.

Im running a rooted SF with MCR R3 on T-mobile and have HSDPA activated on my account.

Thanks,

Did a quick test (Low GSM signal where I am so 1/no bars but do still get 3G, not 3G+)

Auto - 600kbps

WCDMA - 300kbps

Auto.. anywhere between 25 and 566... yes, twenty-five, that is not a typo!

wcdma only - 383 to 473

nice to know my 3G signal is as hopeless as FM radio is where I live... those bl**dy hills! Add to that living miles from the exchange and getting less than 1 meg on broadband... welcome to life in the slow lane!

I know exactly how you feel although I can get around 2000kbps at home!

I rang and asked for it.

I have had the W+W bolt on since it came out, which meant that I got HSDPA speeds before they started charging extra for them.

When I renewed my contract this year, they took off the HSDPA and gave me plain old 3G. When I rang up to find out what was going on, the CSR said the 3G was the default for the plan I had renewed on. When I pointed out that my plan had not changed - I had just renewed - she went through my records and saw that I did have HSDPA enabled previously. She then enabled it there and then and said I wouldnt be charged extra for it as I had previously had it.

If I look at "My T-mobile" I see that I have the extra charge added on and then taken off (loyalty discount).

Is that both having the "3G" icon appear.

Im starting to suspect that "auto" mode doesnt actually give the fastest speeds available, even if the notification is there.

Now, is that a Blade bug or an Android bug?
