USB Mount to Headunit

I am trying to get my alpine headunit to recognise my SF when I connect it up via USB. The phone charges but it doesn't show up to mount the usb like it would when it connects to a pc and my headunit throws up a USB ERROR message.

I know people have got their android to USB mount to their USB headunit, but the SF doesn't do anything but charge. Could it be that the headunit is not supplying enough power so it doesnt go it USB mount mode? Im sure if the notification came up on the SF saying USB storage then my headunit would detect it.

I have also tried reading my sd card with a card reader connected to my HU and it works fine.

When I plugged the phone into my kia ceed it started the mount process, didn't let it finish as I just wanted to charge. that was with 2.1, haven't tried with 2.2

i'll give my SF a go on my Pioneer HU later tonight.

it'd be a possible replacement when my 20gb usbHDD dies...

well, not tried it properly, but it mounts ok and as expected on my Pioneer.

however, it didnt pickup tracks.

sd card is formatted as fat32, and i have an mp3 on the root of the SD card.

it's possible it's met a weirdly named file, or met the HU's limit on sub-folders (i have a weird suspicion it's fairly low, and not the full fat32 spec)

so, yes it mounts as expected, however i'm not able to play any audio tracks as expected

its seems to be hit and miss as i've read pioneer HU sometimes don't work, like mine isn't but yours seems to go one step further.

Try using a usb card reader with your phones memory card and plug it into your HU. If it plays the files then there is something wrong with the how the SF mounts to usb.

What model alpine unit have you got? It might be a newer one hence have more drivers. I tried my brothers 5800 but it came up with the same error on my headunit.

I've got a CDE 9880R which I bought as it matches the interior of my golf mk2! Now im gutted the usb mount is not working :P
