Change Text colors (status bar/clock and other texts)

Can someone please do a guide or explain how to change the text colours please?

I'm using he Froyo rom

I can use a hex editor if needed

I found a guide that talks about editing the xml files but I cant get the xml files to decompile

I'm guessing maybe the roms arent deodexed or something, because from what I got the sml files are meant to be readable in notepad, but they arent

so if need be I can edit them with a hex editor (ONCE I know what I'm looking for)

Although it someone could explain how to de-odex that would be pretty neat also.

I'm using a windows computer but seriously considering having a linux partition if it would maked working with the Android easier.

I get to stage 3 and type : apktool d -f -t C:\phonetheme\working\framework-res.apk C:\phonetheme\working\framework-decoded\ in the command prompt and I get

I go to step 4 Go to C:\phonetheme\working\framework-decoded\res\layout

there is no \res\layout folder, so I made the folders myself and then done it again and still nothing - the folder is empty, totally empty, I then tried running command prompt with administrator rights but still the same

It just wont decompile the framework-res.apk for some reason

Any ideas?
