Customising ROMs by modifying ZIPs?

I have bought a few SF phones for Dutch friends of mine (mom, dad and daughters), and will unlock/root/flash the phones for them, and set them up with their own Gmail-access. Now all need the same additional Dutch applications, for which I mostly have the apk's.

With an unsigned ROM, can I just drop these additional apk-files in the system\app folder? That's easier than downloading them for each phone from the Market.

Thanks B)

(will probably be in BladeVillain or Hungarian Hedgehog)

Yup - just drop the apps into /system/app :).

Yes, and best to use 7zip to do it.

Ta, thought so but trying it required another backup/flash/restore cycle that is now avoidable :)

I assume I can use Titanium to get the other apk's from an installed one?
