Guest vampyre69 Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 I am considering designing a website dedicated to the SPV it will include ringtones, backdrops, themes etc all FREE Now we all now that these kind of sites are going to pop up at £1 p/m etc. And yes I know you can do it for yourselves but i want to create a site where people can share their designs etc aswell as getting stuff for free. Just plugging for some money towards it as I wouldn't be making any money. Bear in mind I offer no shares no certificates etc its just money from you to me to help me register and setup an SPV dedicated site. Although Donators would get a link in the links page to their site(s). I would not add any type of bbs or interactive system to it as I beleive this site should be the only site for that kind of thing.
Guest Firaas Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 I've said no. I don't believe we need any other dedicated SPV sites, especially ones that one must pay for, when there are such good sites as BornSloppy and Smartphony available.
Guest MBoden Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 I've said no as well, i would make donations to paul and his site and other such sites I never liked the idea of charging for other peoples work
Guest vampyre69 Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 I've said no. I don't believe we need any other dedicated SPV sites, especially ones that one must pay for, when there are such good sites as BornSloppy and Smartphony available. I am not saying there are no other good/free sites about or am I saying you must pay. I am merely enquiring to see what financial support may be available if I did decide to register a domain dedicated to the SPV. And to add I am not asking for regular donations just a one-off contribution to help. Once setup all FREE no subscription no nothing people that did not contribute can still access the site.
Guest MBoden Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 If you make something good , people will support you and make donations, and there's always the possibility of using banners
Guest xanadu Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 There are too many people about trying to make money out of other peoples work. Money is evil. That is my opinion, and I am sticking to it. I am just fed up with people that are always asking for money.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 "I want to freeload this all the way baby" I do not like the way this choice is listed. I am NOT a freeloader but I do not like BEGGING letters either. If you want support have banners or donation tabs as mentioned before.
Guest casper508 Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 I said no too and I agree with most of you guys . There really isnt a need for another dedicated site. I wudn't pay a penny if I can get the same stuff free from elsewhere. Just my humble opinion. Cas
Guest kingdom master Posted February 8, 2003 Report Posted February 8, 2003 i run a web company called kingdom, ill happily supply my server which i own and maintain myself, plus ill supply the site if otherscan help with the building as my team dont have much time, ill also get is all covered by microsoft so we dont get in trouble and ill even try to get our sponsors to cover extra costs if need be. kingdom.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted February 9, 2003 Report Posted February 9, 2003 Ditto, no. And I think i'm in the best position to say so :) P
Guest Hax Posted February 9, 2003 Report Posted February 9, 2003 I too have said no... The registering of a domain is very cheap - less than £10 for two years, from companies such as easily who also offer free web forwarding to any other address. The web space is a bit more expensive, but you could always start out by buying a domain(£10), signing up for an internet account which will usually bundle 20 or 50 MB of webspace for free and start building you site there. If it's any good, then you could consider asking for donations, but while you've got nothing to show for it, I don't think you'll get much at all. In the end, if it is good enough, you could always try and sell it or your services to other companies or individuals - you could think of it as a sort of online CV :) Just my opinions of course! Adam
Guest yatpeak Posted February 9, 2003 Report Posted February 9, 2003 I think that with modaco for help and smartphony for themes, there's no need for another site. If We want things like ringtones, we can ask on modaco, someone will know where we can find them. Wyatt
Guest Firaas Posted February 9, 2003 Report Posted February 9, 2003 If you want cheap hosting, try http://www.supanames.co.uk or http://www.bargainhost.co.uk
