Saving text messages before flashing ROM

I'm just about to install Villains Custom ROM on to a friends SF.

However, he wants to keep (or backup) his text messages before i wipe & install the custom rom.

I've done a full Titanium Backup of all apps & data but cant really see if its backed up the messages.

Does it do this?

If not, is there a way of backing them up before a flash the phone?

Yes, Titanium saves messages.

Just had a look at the backups - cant seem to see the text message backup. Could someone point me in the right direction. Cheers.

I use SMS Backup+ which backs up the messages to Gmail.
