Desire stuck at logo screen after failed ROM update?

Greetings all.

Someone is offering me a Desire which basically has the following fault:

It gets stuck at a black HTC logo screen with 4 triangles in each corner. He says this happened because of a custom ROM he tried to flash to it. He further says, and I quote "but now i cannot reflash it as it needs a GOLD CARD and as i cannot connect it to my laptop to create a gold card".

screen ( normal oem boot ) then rebooted so i

tried to use RUU's from xda but keeps saying "

customer id error " if you plug it in to pc and

running android sdk in fast boot it finds the

phone and trys to flash but again " customer id

error " xda guys say i need a gold card but i cant

get the fone to boot to enable debugging so im

stuck"

He's offering it to me at a quite low price - obviously the question is - can it be fixed? I know there's a load of information missing here, but is it worth a try? What sort of questions should I be asking?

Without knowing the original ROM running on the Desire it's hard to say. Was it branded do you know?

The bloke says that it was on Orange. "branded to orange and

i made a gold card b4 flashing it but have lost

the email and mem card was formatted and out of

warenty and its 9 months old "

This doesn't mean alot to me (and indeed, probably not to you!). Is it even worth bothering? He wants £160 for it.

I reckon it could be salvaged, if not by me definitely someone else...
