Guest split2th Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 Hey All. I've been reading these forums in depth for the past few days in anticipation of my new phone, just 24 more hours, lol. I'm already planning on flashing the newest leak bin with the fido 2.2 release from alan009. I know Harness is working on getting Malez recovery working with this release. I have a few questions. I downloaded the drivers from the stickies here, will they work with the liquid e? Do i just install the acer tools for x64 to get those drivers? I also downloaded the a1 acer tools v3.1. I've read that the 3.1 version is needed to flash leaked bins. So what do install first? liquid tools or a1 tools? The phone I'm getting is coming with the acer 2.2 official. Will it be a problem to flash the leak bin using acer tools 3.1? I know I'm being a bit of a pain right now. But I want to learn as much as possible, and eventually be more helpful in this forum. Thanks.

Thanks. Drivers are good, I've never even had to install them but good to have just incase. If you plan to use adb at all you should download that (Or use the adb included in Malez recovery) I finished getting the recovery working, see my thread in the forum. A1 tool is what I use, never failed me. There should be no problem flashing the bin, but if there are we can address that no problem. No worries, I'm still a pain in the ass. :P Welcome to the Liquid community, you have chosen well, Harness.
Guest gwilo Posted November 25, 2010 Report Posted November 25, 2010 (edited) As you will be rooting & flashing from the start I will give you a little hint. If you have trouble with G-mail & Market after flashing. It will say something like 'can not establish connection to ...' and you can not log in but your browser works just sign in to YouTube using your g-mail account, then restart the phone, you will then be able to connect to G-mail & market. I just spent hours trying to find a work around that did not include 'Factory Reset' Also charge your phone for a few hours before doing anything. Edited November 25, 2010 by gwilo

Guest Chewy11 Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 Welcome to the forums!!! Do lost of Nandroid backups and store them on your PC before a Rom flash and after a bin flash I just flashed the latest .bin file from the .bin page I would try that for a bit, install malez to root and backup,it has everything the fido rogers ROMs have + acer ui available and is more recent.

I actually checked the build date on the fido official rom. I't is the same as the newest leak, and a month newer than the rogers official rom, which is the same as the second newest leak. Weird, I know.
Guest split2th Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 Am also Canadian, if you didn't notice. No surprise that there are a lot of Canadians in the acer Liquid forum. Considering how heavily subsidized these phones are here. Cheers to my fellow countrymen.

I have all the respect in the world for the developers here. But the fido release has a more recent build date than the rogers release. The build date for fido is the same as the most recent leak. My plan is to tweak this release as much as possible. And thanks to Harness, Malez is working. I'm new to this phone, but this rom is working 100% and I love it. BTW, I'm typing this on my phone, first time with a touch keypad. What is your favorite keyboard app? I'm having a hard time with it. I think what I need is big accurate keys and really good auto correct, lol.
Guest split2th Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 How are you liking your new liquid? Have you changed bin or rom yet? And yes, I too am Canadian :P Absolutely loving the phone. Just got to get used to typing on it. Not as cool as my friends captivate, but I paid exactly half what he did, lol. I'm so much smarter than him.

Guest Delnar_Ersike Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Indeed, HTC_IME is a very good keyboard. If you're into alternate typing styles, Swype can be *acquired* through various means, though SlideIT is also available if you want to stay on the legal side of things. There's a similar keyboard to Swype that's free, but was removed from the Market due to QA issues; however, people who had it then could create a backup of the apk and some have put it up for download, like this user here. And if you're really feeling brave, you could try 8pen.
Guest split2th Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 For the keyboard, I suggest this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416 Thanks, I've already downloaded that one, and the droid x black one, and swype. I plan on trying them all.
Guest dguerre Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 Thanks, I've already downloaded that one, and the droid x black one, and swype. I plan on trying them all. I suggest you also try swiftkey available in the market.
Guest Harness Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I tried the whole sliding keyboard thing. It's okay, but I find I like the normal better.

I used the slideit demo, and when the trial period ended, I had to buy it! Couldn't go back to pecking at the keyboard. But to each his own! Vive la difference :P My personal must-have apps list includes 3G watchdog, juicedefender, slideit, and extended controls.
Guest Chewy11 Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 This is my favorite keyboard http://www.gimpsta.com/themer/index.php
