Guest Asselberghs Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 Hi guys:) Okay I am a bit confused now. The thing is I was running MCR r9 on my Desire which I thought was awsome:D But now I have changed to MCR r21 (IIRC) a Nexus Rom port customized by Paul for the Desire device and it´s even cooler thanks Paul:) My question is this, I thought the bootanimation.zip location, and general folder structure of an Android was the same all across the line. It appears this is not the case. On MCR r9 there was a Bootanimation.zip file on the SD card symlinked to some place internally. Fine nice and easy to exchange the bootanimation zip files.:P Then I tried to get the R2D2 boot animation on my device but it diden´t work the usual way. I figured out that through ADB and I presume through Root Explorer now I think about it, I could force it into the original location where the symlink pointed, thats my guess it worked at the time with MCR R9 or maybe it was R8 but the structure is basicly the same as far as I know. This location was: /customize/resource/bootanimation.zip Okay then thats where it´s placed I thought. So if I can´t find bootanimation.zip on the SD Card I´ll just put it there. Now I just checked up on it, on my current installed MCR r21 Nexus One port rom here from MoDaCo and I don´t even have a customize folder. Then I found out I could do a search using root explorer and located the boot animation zip file this time in: /system/media/bootanimation.zip So thats 3 locations for the bootanimation.zip (okay 2 locations and one symlink some times) is it different on all phones? isen´t there a set/standard way to do it on all Androids? The reason why I ask this is I blog about Android when I find something useful I post it usually something that has made me make a little effort and not just installing apps or something about that, I write it down so I´ll remember it and so others can benefit from it. And I am translating it to Danish now, all that stuff for my Wiki, yup I live in Denmark. But if there isen´t a "generic Android way" to handle bootscreen zip files and it all depend on the device I feel I can´t write about it, because most of it is supposed to be able to work all across Android devices and not just people having my phone, but I can´t very well get my hands on all sorts of phones to test it out. That was a long speech sorry guys. Hope you can help. Kind Regards Asselberghs
Guest bcmobile Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 Woah - that was a marathon. I was like :P ...then I was like :P ...and then I was like ;) But seriously - AFAIk /system/media/bootanimation.zip is the default location. If you have a symlink pointing to your SD card, then this is something that has been customised by the chef to make changing boot anims easier. As for why the R2D2 boot anim didn't work.
