Stephen Hyde vs Official Dell/O2 Froyo

Hello,

I just would like to ask which one is/will be better for my streak locked to o2. I know o2 one is not relesed yet but i dont think it will be much changed from offcial dell one for unlocked. Im waiting but if this will be the same then i prefer install stephen one. I have few questions to ask about it:

1. There is any difference between dell official and Stephen in speed?

2. Do i lose anything going for Stephen not o2 one?

Q) I am planning to finally upgrade to djsteves version...so I was wondering:

is it faster to get to 1.4.6 by starting from 1.1 and then going on to 1.4.6

or

is it faster to install the official 2.2 rom first and then jump to 1.4.6??

oh and also...which one is easier..:P

I went from 8105 to 2.2 official then steves latest. Nice and easy way of doing it...

I would assume the 8105 to official 2.2 would the one on streaksmart.com( developed by dj steve)..

Yes the one to official 2.2 is the one posted on her by steve. Have to push the 3 files over fastboot. Once you are rocking official 2.2 then just follow the instructions on the 1.4.6. thread first page. Its just a matter of flashing the new baseband then installing the zip file from the clockwork recovery. Follow the intstructions and you wont go far wrong...

you've heard of the titanic right?

well the titanic had a sister ship (2 in fact) the olympic

the olympic was involved in many collosions during her time

so she had many crashes & survives them all

The titanic only had one crash, but it was a complete show stopper

Steve's rom is the olympic

Dells 2.2 rom is the titanic

diff version of the story =

the dell build is slow & the internet doesn't work. which is a joke cos the usp of droid is the flash compatibility

steve's build has good speed & everything important works great, it just has a few lil' bugs (eg usb tethering not working, the odd FC, the need to select silent mode to change the notification sounds)

but this is a small infinitesimal "price" to pay to be on such a great build, when the official one is so flawed

(much like the titanic the dell 2.2 is a rusting heap of scrap that should be on the sea bed)

but I am not sure if ill be doing it...my previous experience of warranty voiding and fear of bricking the streak doesnt help...

ill just have to wait it out....

Mate i was a complete n00b to this sort of stuff before the streak so if I can manage it Im sure you can. If you get stuck then pop into the irc chat channel and someone will point you in the right direction..Its virtually impossible to brick totally...

ive only ever seen 2 totally bricked streaks that my repair tool cant revive and those were the users fault for trying to flash an image that shouldnt be flashed via fastboot

ah!!...now after making up my mind about not going to 1.4.6 I am once again in a dilemma....

one quick Q...is it possible to go directly to 1.4.6 using clockwork n flashing the zip without going through the other versions or even the official 2.2??

yes it is possible. igf you are going from 2.1 you will need to flash the amss(baseband) and dsp1 (720p fix) also

I know I am asking really noobish Q's, but then wat the hell...I am a noob when it comes to android flashing...

so here is another...

does it make more sense to go directly to 1.4.6 from 2.1 or rather go to 2.2 official n then 1.4.6...?...does it have to do anything to do with how successful ill be if I follow either method?

and one more thing...say when the official 2.2 comes out for o2 locked devices...will I able to go to that from 1.4.6 or 1.5 or 1.6(watever it is at tht time :P) to the o2 one?...for warranty reasons of course...
