Guest doran1801 Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 hi Sorry for asking for help on 1st post ! i have a san fransisco that, whenever i make a call the screen goes off, and only when the other caller hangs up does my screen come back on. no matter which button i press, i cannot get the screen back on the end the call. Today i have tried just about all the roms on here to see if it was a rom causing it . does anyone have any ideas before it goes back to orange ? thanks

Guest doran1801 Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 at least this confirms nobody else has this problem. no i have not been covering the screen so it must be a fault. does anyone have a guide on how to remove clockwork mod so i can return to orange ?

Guest toytown Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 just flash the stock recovery You can check if its the light proximity sensor, by pressing the power button on top to put your phone back to standby (Not shutdown), then cover the sensor up and press the power button again, if the sensor is working, then the home/menu/back buttons will light white, if its broken they will not. If you have a screen protector is possible that it half covers the sensor which could cause issues, so worth removing as a last test before you send it back. The sensor itself is quite hard to see, theres two of them at the top of the phone and in good light you can see a kinda dark blue colour instead of black. 1st sensor is approx half a centimeter up from the top of the letter S in "San Francisco" at the top of the phone......the second sensor is approx half a centimeter left of this.
Guest critch36 Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 try Z device test from the market ,its free and can test all the functions on the phone
Guest gerolemonster Posted December 5, 2010 Report Posted December 5, 2010 (edited) Hi, I have this problem too. I've tried Toytown's suggestion and it would appear that my proximity sensor is working; the buttons light up when waking from sleep if I cover it. ...Any ideas whey it wont work with calls, and how I can fix it please? EDIT: I've downloaded shake awake, so I can use the phone, but I'd still appreciate a proper fix ;) Edited December 5, 2010 by gerolemonster

EDIT: I've downloaded shake awake, so I can use the phone, but I'd still appreciate a proper fix :( I have the same problem, I downloaded Offhook and Search which has also fixed the problem but I'd rather just have the screen stay on. I'm not worried about the proximity feature. I've lost my receipt, dumped the Orange sim and have done a lot of modding to the phone so I'd rather not take the phone back.
Guest dubatc Posted January 3, 2011 Report Posted January 3, 2011 ok thanks to all on other threads so here is the fix that worked for me Dial *983*0# scroll down to sensors and press the calib button-this fixed my phone and I confirmed this using android sensor data app and also by making calls. Many many thanks to the others that pointed this out.

This is exactly what I needed for my wifes phone hers has been doing this for ages I thought it was a hardware fault (although she does have a small crack in the digitiser......) ran through the sensor bit as described the proximity failed, ran calibration it passed, now works a charm Youve saved me loads of earache :)
Guest melgashop Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 I had the very same problem as you and recalibrating the proximity sensor ended that annoying problem.
Guest arona.at Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 (edited) the san francisco of my girlfriend has the same problem ... i tried to calibrate the sensor with emode helper and the zte dialer, the popup say the proxi sensor is ok, but the status say "fail". when i cover the sensor and press the power button, the buttons light white. i tried it with ginger stir fry and Moldovan Mile-High-Mountain-Pie, both had the same error (screen black after call). has someone a other idea for me? ps: the sf was a gen1, flashed gen2 Edited November 1, 2011 by arona.at

(Then it will go to ok from fail (It always starts at fail).
