Guest preacher65 Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I hope someone can offer some help or advice. I've been trying different Sat Nav applications with my DHD and Blueant S4 handsfree. The best routes so far have been from Navigon MobileNavigator, but the voice comes out of both the phone speaker and the S4. As there's a slight lag on the BT speaker, it creates an annoying echo and makes it almost impossible to understand. However turning the phone speaker down causes the BT sound to disappear as well. CoPilot doesn't suffer from this problem, and sound only comes out of the bluetooth handfree. However after a trial of admittedly just one day, I wasn't very impressed with its routing algorithms. Also it only says road names using the built-in voice synthesiser, otherwise it's just "turn left" etc. On the other hand the built-in HTC Locations "Premium Navigation" doesn't search UK postcode properly, a fault which Route66 admitted and said was due to a bug in the firmware. I could wait and hope that it gets fixed in the near future, but I didn't think the software was particularly easy to use. So I'm back to the Navigon. I like the look and feel of it, and the routing seem excellent - at least as far as I could tell in a single day's testing. I emailed their support about the sound issues, but they say they don't have an option for "Bluetooth only" sound. Does anyone have any experience of similar problems? Or of using Navigon? Any suggestions on how I might fix this? The Blueant S4 is within a 30 day returns period, so if the problem is due to the BT unit I could send it back. However really wanted something that was voice activated and offered multipoint, and this seemed the only non-wired option. Is there a setting on the DHD I can adjust to stop sound coming out of both? I assume it's using the Bluetooth "Media" profile rather than "Phone" to send the Navigon voice to the handsfree. If I can't get it working, are there any better options than CoPilot? I've scoured online reviews but these seem the best two. Or other BT units that can pair to 2 phones and are voice activated? Thanks!
Guest SozzaSinnian Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I think the problem is actually down to our handsets software as I am having the same problem after upgrading from the HTC Hero to the HTC Desire Z. On the Hero I could adjust Bluetooth audio separately to the phone audio, but it is not implemented into the new handset or has been hidden for whatever reason :P
Guest preacher65 Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 (edited) Thanks, that's interesting. Do you know if that was an HTC option or a stock Android one? And where in the phone OS was it controlled from? This is my first Android so I'm still learning my way around the options. Just thinking I could try flashing Cyanogen to see if the option appears. Is that based on Android stock? Edited November 27, 2010 by preacher65
Guest amacrobie Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Slightly off-topic, but I used to have a similarly odd issue with Sygic MM9 (can't remember if it affected 10 as well) where if using the bluetooth audio profile it would first play the instruction in the chosen language (in my case, english) then play it in every other language too. Doesn't happen in co-pilot so have to assume it's an application issue.
Guest Learnincurve Posted November 30, 2010 Report Posted November 30, 2010 I have exactly the same problem. Navigon (full - paid for v. 3.5.2) audio comes from Handset first, then, a moment later over the car's bluetooth connection (- the first second or so that gets lost in the bluetooth audio initiation). I've reported this to both Navigon and HTC, and both appear to take it seriously, so I would strongly urge anyone else who has this problem to do the same as the more of us who are visibly dissatisfied, the better our chances of getting it fixed. As a possible workaround, I have also been in touch with the developer of the "CarUI" app, who appears to know quite a bit about the bluetooth stack and has promised to look into the problem for the next release. I'd recommend dropping him a line as well so that he sees that the problem affects many. Let's hope for a fix as the problem renders an otherwise very good satnav app pretty much useless.
Guest Learnincurve Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 I can confirm that starting Navigon from the CarUI app now fixes this problem :-)
