Guest sakisds Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 I tried to download samsung's official II6 ROM but when I flash it, my phone uses greek in the ROM(menus and everything). I tried to split the rom using o2util and repack it without the language pack(PDA_B7610XXII6_HW_70.langpack.nb) but when I flash it, I get a blue screen with some white squares on top left. Any help would be appreciated.
Guest Thunder141 Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 if you flash official rom (mst) with corresponding csc you can select the language in octan and after flashing language pack will be installed i thought and set to your language. ?? I extracted a nb0 from the mst because I want to leave the eboot as is. I also did not flash csc. The language defaults to Greek but I want to use English, Greek translations are realy inaccurate.

Guest Sumit Bhardwaj Posted November 27, 2010 Report Posted November 27, 2010 You are right but you need to understand how Samsung exploits Windows Mobile's inbuilt firmware update technology with its language packs. Yes, Windows Mobile does has an update feature but its not used till date. In this method, files can be updated in the ROM without flashing the whole rom by booting into a special mode that we can call something like "update mode". I will not get into its details, XDA has a thread dedicated to this technology so you can read there if u want. But what happens is, the MST contains 3 partitions, eboot, nb0 and langpack. the nb0 in official mst is not the same as in custom roms. It does not have language specific files (folders in sys with language codes like 0409 in their name). On first boot, bootloader detects that a rom flashing is in progress and boots phone into "update mode". There language files of the selected language are added to the rom using the in-place-update method. Using the nb0 from MST will obviously not work as no language files are there. These files are critical and os cannot function without them. You can try to select a Multi language CSC while flashing with English selected. This may force bootloader to make english the default lang. Try it.
