Guest Leasious Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Hi all, I'ma bit of the newb, I've had the San Francisco for about 6 weeks, and only just realised Orange block off a lot of stuff built in. I just saw that rooting your phone will get rid of the annoying Orange control. See, I'd love to do it, but the fact I've read people say online that they've completely buggered their phone up is putting me off, cause I don't have insurance on it. How big would you say the chance of completely messing my phone would be? Should I do it or not? If I was to flash it, it wouldn't be me doing it. It would be my partner, cause I'm a total noob when it comes to command prompts and stuff. Any help would be appreciated =)
Guest gambieter Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Although never completely without risk, it is quite safe and not too difficult as long as you read the instructions carefully, take your time and don't panic. Ans yes, it is absolutely worth it in my opinion.
Guest rayraven Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Use Universal Androot [see the wiki for details] for a one click root solution.
Guest Leasious Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 I've just read http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-san-francisco/ it seems to make sense, but then my partner turns around and says there are reasons companies block certain things... Now I'm thinkinh about doing it, but what if he's right? They're being controlling for a reason, but I really am confused really bad now :'(
Guest rayraven Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 Hold on, block? Nothing's blocked on the stock rom. Everything works. Orange just added a bunch of crappy apps that make use of their services. You can just continue using the phone without removing them, it's not going to make any difference. Only reason people remove them, is because they dont use them and all they do is clog up memory.
Guest Lew247 Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 have faith in yourself You can do it. I knew nothing about Android whatsoever before I got mine, but I read the instructions, and followed them, It rooted really easily. Make certain you read the last post here http://android.modaco.com/content-page/319...overy/page/200/ That was the only problem I had when I tried to flash now firmware, but it was very easily fixed. Remember, once its rooted, if you make a mistake you can always go back to the original firmware putting your phone back as it was if you want. Once you try new firmware and get it the way you like it, make a backup using clockwork, that way if you do make a mistake its dead simple to restore it
Guest triobot Posted November 28, 2010 Report Posted November 28, 2010 http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...boot-root-mcri/ This has vid for reference.
