I am having unlocked Orange San Francisco, on a stock rom, only with Orange Apps being removed, I am not able to make and receive calls. However I am able to access Internet on phone using 3g or Edge or GPRS.

I tried installing Modaco's custom Rom based on stock firmware. Still I have the problem.. :P

Have you tried installing Dialer One from the market?

It sounds like you're missing contacts or phone application.

Yes, I did install it. However I have removed it now.. What should I do with missing contacts and phone app?

Hi it's had a similar issue, it turned out to be orange had blocked the imei, this can happen for delivery security reasons, if you bought the direct from orange call them about this, if you bought from non orange supplier, contact them and tell them you think your phone number is imei blocked, as they will need tocontact orange

Thanks, I hope that works and did they unblock it immediately or took some time?

This ONLY applies to using Orange's network.

If that's what you are trying to do, leave the phone turned on, with the Orange sim installed.

They may send you a stream of SMS messages including a "sim update" (delete and restart to implement).

Or phone Orange and ask about "activating" the phone. (That is their word for it - not "unlocking"!)

If the phone is activated (or your sim is from another network), then you probably deleted something that was actually needed. Reflash a rom and start again.

Yes, it was deactivate, so I called them and got activated. But I am still not able to make calls from O2 sim, I am able to call from Orange SIM card though!! :P

Do you think I need to wipe and install stock firmware with all orange stuff again?

I unlocked my phone using same site, same model and it worked. I was able to use other sim cards, but suddenly after it was blocked by Orange, other sim cards are not working even after it is unblocked by Orange.

Come on Android developers help me with this!!

Have you SIM unlocked again after it was activated by Orange? I wonder if their updates have relocked the phone to their network.

Do you get any errors/messages when you try and make a call?

Does O2 show up in the lock screen when you've got the O2 sim installed?

What happens when you goto Settings/Wireless & Networks/Mobile Networks/Network Operators?

Does it show O2 or Orange or what?

How do I unlock my sim again? I am able to access Internet using o2 sim, but cannot make & receive calls.

No errors, it just disconnects as soon as I dail.

It does not show the lock screen.

It shows all available networks.

I have set it to select automatically, I have a giffgaff simcard which works on o2 network, I can register on o2 network with giffgaff sim card. I tried Vectone today, it was working fine, I was able to make calls from Vectone as well as Vodafone.

But giffgaff on SF is not working, the same giffgaff sim card is working on other phones!! Now it is something specific with SF and giffgaff

ahhh It is good that you have narrowed the reason for the problem down, I'd call giff gaff and ask them perhaps they will know the answer, giff gaff as we know is o2 based, so I would of guessed they should not be a issue, I'd say your phone is fully unlocked, perhaps theres something set on the phone that makes giff gaff think your not in the u.k and its partially blocked for roaming?

I noticed on the phone in the settings "allow mock location" as a guess try unticking or even ticking that option, the option is in applications then development

Aha :P that's great news , did you tick or untick it just for future reference ?

I personally would make a quick 1 min call to someone , then call giff gaff and just make sure the call you made was not classed as a international / roamed call , just for your own peace of mind , but only if you think it's worth doing that, just a double check all is working as it should be .

Glad I could help, it was a guess , but a good guess :D

The exact same way you did before.

By the way, you said you called orange to get the phone unbarred, did you make any calls or texts on the phone BEFORE you unlocked it the first time?

IE did it register properly on the Orange network BEFORE you unlocked it?

If not then as said they probably blocked the imie (phone)

This barrs the phone on ALL UK networks, but if Orange then unbarred it as you said it did, it will get unbarred on the other networks, It will just take a while before the servers catch up.

I think its probably something to do with AUTOMATIC selection not working on network-on-a-network sims.

I'd expect it to work happily with MANUAL selection of the network.

Did you ever try that? (If not would you please reproduce the problem, and see whether that sorts it?)

If it is a solid problem with Automatic selection and such networks, then it ought to be fed back to ZTE. But first the problem needs to be fully described.

Users have been reported that the (only) FroYo kernel used so far shows GiffGaff and Tesco as being O2, the actual carrier.
