My First Blade would come out of standby by pressing home/menu/back

My first Blade, which I dropped and smashed, would come out of standby if I pressed any of the three buttons on the menu bar, but this second one doesn't. The first came out of the box doing it and the second one came out of the box not doing it. If I have to bring my phone to life by pressing the power button every time I'm going to stamp on it. :P :D

Your first phone must have had a problem preventing it from sleeping as all Blades can only be woken by power button once the phone is asleep. If you have only just turned screen off it works but after that power only.

I think it normally does wake momentarily (to check for messages, etc.) so you might be [very!] lucky and happen to press the button at that point. Or maybe while you were charging it (when it never fully sleeps).

The screen is cracked but I can still use it now... I put it in standby with the power button and then bring it out by pressing the menu bar, which is great, I like it that way. Equally, pressing the power button also brings it out of standby.

What that means is that your phone isn't sleeping. So yes you can bring the screen on by pressing the buttons but the phone itself isn't in standby - it's only blanked the screen and is draining battery a lot faster.

So it was faulty: good, I can get them to fix it, which they won't be able to do and they can give me a new one. Even though I've just bought a second one to replace it. :/

I can come out of sleep mode by pressing any of the three keys on the buttom, which takes me to the phone lock screen without pressing the power button.

How do you determine if it is faulty?

It's not a fault. It's an app doing it (the music app built in or lots of 3rd party apps) or you have it plugged into USB. In an ideal world it would be normal behaviour in sleep mode but it's not. :D And this really should be FAQ'd. It took someone here ages to persuade me of this too. :P

Install SpareParts from the market and look at the partial wake usage in battery stats.

if the phone isnt sleeping it will run out much quicker.

It gives me Some Blue Line on Dialer and Android System since last unplugged which was a minute ago.

Funny thing is I was using the power button all the time until I read this thread.

I haven't installed that app but I've had both phones with me today; I've used very little of either phone and the battery figures are identical:

72% Android

10% Cell Standby

10% Wi-Fi

10% Phone Idle

Total 102%: almost the 110% sporting cliché but not quite.

Do those figures give enough information to suggest that the phone that can be woken from the menu bar is satisfactorily soporific when it's on standby?

(71.5% for Android, and 9.5% for the others.) 10% battery usage while Idle does sound like a lot to me...

But it's the same on both phones, one Blade that comes out of standby by pressing the menu button and one that doesn't. Both are running seb's 5th ROM for what it's worth.

Nice decimal insights by the way - I have been shamed lol.

OK, so that does sound a bit odd. Is there any difference between the various version infos in "Settings"->"About phone"?

All the about phone alpha-numeric are the same, kernels, build number etc both the same.

I've actually used my phone today rather than leaving it to ferment in my bag as I did yesterday, and the idle figure is down to 3%, so I think the high 10% idle from yesterday was simply because the phone wasn't being used, so the android usage percentage was usually low.

For a moment, my second Blade was coming out of standby from the menu bar, but it lasted only until I powered off/on. Prior to that, I had been powering-up via pc/usb, took the phone out with me and it acted like it was on usb charge until I powered off/on.

My Orange SF wakes up when I use the home/menu/back buttons or the power button too. Just rebooted it (unplugged from USB) and it still does it. I'm happy with that ;)

Hi Guys

Got my San Fransicso today so signed up here. Unlocked it, and now using Modaco Custom ROM r4 2.1

My phone wont come out of standby either. Ive got it set to 30 mins, but if i leave the phone for 30 mins, I have to then take the battery out and mess around rebooting the phone because it wont come on any other way. When i press any of the three buttons, they light up and vibrate, so i know they have been pressed, but the screen remains blank. Pressing power button does nothing either.

Anyone have any idea's on how to solve this? I only got the phone today.

Kind regards

James
